Title: Conversions. Still need painted.
Description: Hummvees and Dirt bike.
GreyDeath - June 25, 2004 01:29 AM (GMT)
First off, sorry if these are in the wrong spot but I dont see a conversion area?
I am working on a Desert special ops army.
They will be Lite Infantry like the modern US Army.
Mostly troops and then a couple hummvees and a couple bikes.
Heres a couple shots of the hummvees.

Very cool looking conversions, look like wart hogs from Halo. How long did they take? B)
GreyDeath - June 26, 2004 07:26 AM (GMT)
It takes about 45 minutes.
Here how to do them.
And ask questions if my explanations are not very good.
1. Speeder.
1. Landraider sprue Turret gunner sprue.
4. Ork truck tires large.
All walk you threw it as if your following the steps in the instructions.
step 1.
Ok glue the speeder together as step one says but I cut the front bumper down because it will get in the way of the front tires.
step 2.
glue the top down onto the bottom and the side door on. Do not glue on the top wing or the bottom sensor area. The jet exhaust will need to be shaved down with a hobby knife to remove the edges of the exhaust.
They have about 5 strips going down the sides of each jet exhaust.
trim them off.
Turn it around and you will see what and how much more you need to trim to make this fit back into the rear of the Hummve backwards with no exhaust sticking out.
Cut the wings off each side.
step 3
Mount gunner in but use the heavy bolter from the landraider gunners sprue for him. Mount the wind shield.
The door steps I cut down and glued just below each hatch so it allows the top gunner to go onto the roof.
Thats the end for the speeder.
Now to finish.
Step 4
take a pice of tube that fits into the wheels of the Ork truk tire and measure across to the other side. I know it looks wide but I wnated it to look like it would really be able to turn? Up to you.
Then slide this axles threw another larger pice of tubeing.
Glue this under the front end.
about the second row back. Cutting the down bumps out of your way.
Step 5
In the back take the top wing and glue it under the back end.
Its sites really well over what looks like small down thruster vents?
glue it across.
Then I take the Melta tubes and blue it in the middle so it looks like shocks.
Then take the tube and measure and cut.
Slide it threw a larger piece and glue to the wing.
Kinda simple you guys can do more.
step 6
Cut the jet ram intake off the roof.
Then use plasticard or even a piece of blister plastic works to cover the hole roof and the large hole in it your about to make.
Then glue the coupula turret to the top of the new flat roof.
Taken from the Landraider sprue.
Then add the gunner. From the landraider sprue as well.
I cut the cupulas turret down from the bottom and the drivers base off so he can drop in from the top so he doesnt stick up to much.
Then cut the pivot of the turret arm where you mount the heay bolter normally?
Cut it down a little to make room for the larger Heavy bolter that comes with the speeder.
Glue it ontop of the pivot arm and attach the gunners arms to the heavy bolter.
step 7
Now to make it look more realistic.
Add stoage, fuel cans, spare tires and rucksacks and stuff to it.
I added tie downs and hooks left over form the other tanks I have made and that come on the Landraider sprue your yousing.
Well thats all I can think of?
Just ask me and all tell you more.

Well you continue to amaze me. 2nd place and thats the best i have ever seen.
How did you originally come up with the idea and how did you go about thinking of ways to build it?
CHAOS GOD666! - June 26, 2004 11:05 AM (GMT)
Im definetly going to try it when i have the money and the time to go to GW with emperors champ. ;) Hopefully in the next few weeks, you could also use it for a very good looking terrain piece! :D
Thanx for taking the time to write it out.

I get ideas in my head.
I see it all the way threw.
Like in my minds eye I see what I wnat.
Then I find the parts.
In California we have the bits catalog so I go page by page sometimes and have to find the parts I need.
If I can find what I picture in my mind and then I try it and work on it until its the way I see it.
Like the Hummvee I wanted a version with a marine sticking up out the roof shooting the gun like I did in the Army.
See thats a real assault vehicle.
So how to make it?
I work it out?
When I like it I make more.
I made one hummvee and liked it.
Showed it got feedback and made a couple small changes that I was ok with.
Then went into mas production and built 6 more.
I see it and then build it.
If the thing cant be built with whats out in bits or stuff yet I wait until the day comes when the right part or piece is out to make it.
Thanks again for the feedback and input.

Well you are a smart cookie. I thought about making a space marine hydra but decided not to. It would be a razorback with the lascannons inside facing upwards. Your designs are a little more on the creative side than mine. Ive taken something and improved it and you have created your own.
GreyDeath - June 27, 2004 09:13 PM (GMT)
Not always.
I had to start somwhere.
I started by inproveing on ideas.
I still do.
Thats one of my biggest conversion tricks I have.
Before there where the new razorbacks out I converted and made my own.
Just stuff like that.
Then here and there I go farther on some ideas.
But yes converting off of an already known idea is a great way to just give something that special touch and make it your own.
I like the Hydra Marine style with the 4 Lascannons instead.
May I try to build one?
Dont want to take your idea?
But see thats how I get ideas.
Talking to people and now I have a vision of how it would look and think it would be cool?
Thank you for your input.
MeWiseMagic - June 30, 2004 03:20 PM (GMT)
I like it a lot, but it doesnt really look like a humvee, simply due to the shape of the landspeeder, it looks more like one of those Navy Seals assault vehicles.
GreyDeath - July 1, 2004 02:03 AM (GMT)
Well thats cool.
I wount call it a Hummvee then.
All call it A Fast Attack Vehicle.
Sounds ok right?
