Title: Alaitoc 750pts

war mammoth - November 9, 2004 09:03 PM (GMT)
Im taking part in my local GWs tournament to see who is the best 40k gamer. I really want to win so I dug up my eldar army out of the remnants of my bits box and came up with this. Is it okay?

Avatar
Wraithlord w/starcannon
4 units of 3 rangers
3 pathfinders
4 pathfinders
Fire Prism Grav Tank, Crystal Targeting Matrix

Thats 6 rolls on the ranger disruption table and 19 sniper rifles 7 of which are AP1 on a 4+ to hit and the rest are on a 6+. What do you guys think?

well its certainly shooty, but why the Avatar in 750 Points?
the Wraith Lord and Avatar are yer Close Combat Protection and then the Fire Prism takes out big things at range, loads of Snipers pin Enemy Units and destroy them one-by-one, I struggle to see how I am going to beat this list, good job on the Perfect Eldar Army!

I personally think the army is really small. I could get 4 or 5 to one odds against it and still sneak in some heavy stuff. If you lose even one squad you'll suffer.
Admittedly it would be fairly hard to hurt that army and you would rule the early turns of the game. But in a prolonged fight i think the army would fall to bits. You'd need to be winning by turn 3 for any real chance of success.
At least IMHO anyway.

And who cares if you are AP1? My best save is 5+ ;)

The list looks very vicious, but if anyone is deepstriking I fear the worst.

Taking what Silas said about Imperial Guard.... forget guardsman, how much harm could a heavy flamer sentinel do to a unit of path-finders (deepstriking of course)? I don't think that would be pretty, killing anyone under the template on 2+, and for only 40 points. Let alone that being A 10 they are immune to all the rifles. Even if the sentinel struck off target, you don't have many (two) AT weapons to fight them off ( forcing the rangers to move, preventing them from firing).

With the new marine codex allowing even more deepstriking, even a standard 6 point flamer will send these space elves fleeing for their lives.

I would rely on my fire prism to do the damage on your sentinels and tanks etc. however, if i was extramely desperate I would shoot my snipers at the sentinel, thank god for the new rules!
As for deep-striking that is my only worry, however Im going to hope that in the tournament there will be lots of terrain (forests) on the boards, not only to fend off deep-strikers but so that I get a +1 cover save for rangers and +2 for pathfinders.

The Confessor - November 10, 2004 06:32 PM (GMT)
What new rules do snipers have? ( I'm not buying the book  )

Remember you can only shoot through 6" or less of cover and a flamer template is longer than that, and your increased cover save won't mean anything when the flames star gushing.

As for the prism being effective against the sents... meh. Even if you can get a line of sight to one and hit with a crappy BS 3, you killed a whopping 40 points.

I know the list is good, I'm not saying it isn't. I just think it wouldn't have a chance in hell against deep striking guard.

( or a hellhound throwing the inferno cannon on you from 24")

May i just ask how a sentinel deep strikes?

The Confessor - November 10, 2004 07:49 PM (GMT)
Drop Troops

"... Any guard infantry unit (without a Chimera transport) or Sentinel squadron may deepstrike if the mission permits."

war mammoth - November 10, 2004 09:22 PM (GMT)
Oh are those the Alletian Drop Troopers? Wow, they are harder than i thought... ouch...

The Confessor - November 10, 2004 09:54 PM (GMT)
Any guard can take drop troop.

Elysian Drop Troops however can reroll their scatters to help get on taget, roll twice for reserves and deepstrike no matter what the scenario is.

I used this army in a local GW tournament just 2 days ago and I won! (woohoo) I also found out 1 vital peice of information, Big units of orks are not the best unit to try to pin...
