well, which should I buy? I have none of these, my friends have none of these, except Vampire Counts (my friend has about 3K of them)

Well i think its up to you to decide. What army appeals to you the most? Personally i dont think a poll suits how you choose armies but if you want to by all means do it.
I would go imperial guard :D

Yes kroot are a good choice as you can incorporate them into your tau as you can put grey knights with guard should you choose them :blink:

LATD is shorthand for Legion of the Damned. They are comprised of mainly mutants and traitors. They have their own little army list in Codex: EOT.

then shouldn't that be LotD? not LatD?
but I don't like the Damned anyway, the fluff just doesn't suit me really

1st thing: Legion of the Damned are actually normal SMs, they are a small group of marines who linger around the universe and eventually take part in the odd battle (like Cypher and his fallen angels) but tend to fight along side eldar and/or the imperials.

Its your own choice, none of us here can 'tell' you to collect an army, what I tend to do is go to your local GW and ask to look at models for every race. Line them out in front of you and pick out the one you like best on appearance. Not stat line, not background, just what you would enjoy painting... after all, 50% of your time will be painting your army...

The marines you are thinking of are known as the Fallen. They havent turned to chaos but are seen to have commited sins and so are not a part of the Imperium either.

Yes I was wrong. It was Lost and the Damned. Stupid GW and their similar names... And one small correction to Silas' post. The Legion of the Damned used to be the Fire Hawks Space Marine chapter. They got lost in the warp and became the Legion of the Damned. Further fluff about them can be found here.

Oh yeah, forgot about those marines. I think they are BOTH called Legion of the Damned (Chaos and the Fire Hawks). Its typical of GW to clash names, mostly due to forgetting about their old stuff...
