Well i would say it depends on what kind of army your looking for.
If your looking for close combat i would go with tyranids, blood angels, or chaos/khorne.
If your looking for heavy guns and explosives take Imperial guard.
If your looking for a mixed army, well any other army will do it! :D
Hope that helps.
What army are you thinking of getting anyway? <_<
conman - August 4, 2004 10:23 AM (GMT)
<_< i might get the chaos/khorne or space marines which ones r better
emperors champion akeris - August 4, 2004 10:26 AM (GMT)
Hmmmm ask a staff member at Games Workshop. Theyll offer you choices and can explain advantages and disadvantages easier than we can :D
CHAOS GOD666! - August 4, 2004 10:43 AM (GMT)

For plague marines/death guard click
hereFor Iron warriors the most heavily powered fire arms evil army of all click
hereThats the armys i recommend getting. Let me know what you think of them all.
I would say go with Imperial guard or iron warriors.
Hope that kinda helps! :D
emperors champion akeris - August 5, 2004 10:12 AM (GMT)
Ok if you like space marines and you like smashing orks to a pulp (LIKE ME :D ) you cant go past black templars.
If you want any info on them that you think i would know just ask me :P

There is no BEST army.
Every army has their own unique strenghs and weaknesses.
It all depends on a players playing style. If you are up for some good ol punch ups you wont pick tau to do the job!
Obviously people will be biased towards the armies that they collect, because those are the armies they know and love.
On that note, my biased armies would have to be Orks, Imperial Guard, White Scars, and Iron Warriors.
emperors champion akeris - August 5, 2004 10:23 AM (GMT)
i love white scars but i would suggest them as a starting army. They were my starting army and it was a great army that just needs to be recognised. They are a bit complicated for newcommers.
Iron warriors are pretty straignt forward get out of my way or ill make you a big hole in the ground :D
Orks a good but not rally a beginner painting army.
Imperial guard is good but dedication is needed as they are numerous and rely heavily on armoured support.
Silas - August 5, 2004 10:30 AM (GMT)
You have never played a true Guardsmen then.
My Imperial Guard certainly dont rely on Armoured support. The most armour i have is one chimera in 1,000pts.
CHAOS GOD666! - August 5, 2004 10:37 AM (GMT)
Yes, Most people prefer a solid amount of troops then alot of armoured tanks.
Ive seen alot of guard armys contain more 150 foot soldiers and the amount of fire they can pepper their opponent with is incredible. :o
Silas - August 5, 2004 10:39 AM (GMT)
Too true.
I have about 200 troops in my 1500pt army. Thats 10 missile launchers, 3 lascannons, and 7 heavy bolters...
CHAOS GOD666! - August 5, 2004 10:51 AM (GMT)
VERY NICE! :D
Do you win most of your games using your Guard force?
Silas - August 5, 2004 10:58 AM (GMT)
not really...i win alot of them though.
Came 50th out of 150 at Conflict London this year. That was fun. Silly people taking Grey Knights...

It looks like you prefer missile launchers over lascannons?
I rather like lascannons more...simply because they are better. ;)
Silas - August 5, 2004 11:03 AM (GMT)
I prefer missile launchers because they have the option to frag stuff. Lots of small blasts comes in mighty useful against orks and nids

emperors champion akeris - August 5, 2004 11:08 AM (GMT)
I have actually quite a lot. I just think they are a much improved army with leman russ support. Heavy weapons teams are good but well i have never failed in removing them first turn with massed shooting. Boom there goes all heavy support fire.
conman - August 5, 2004 11:47 AM (GMT)
im probbably gettin dark angles now anyone got them or like them they look really cool
:D
conman - August 6, 2004 12:40 PM (GMT)
:o hey emperers champion akeries u said 2 ask u about black templers (and yeah i wanna smash orks they dont belong in the year 40000) anyway what are they good at and are they better than dark angles and ultra marines thanks
Darmort - August 7, 2004 12:18 PM (GMT)
well seeing as I love playing Black Templars and Dark Eldar I can tell you not to use them, Dark Eldar are a tough army to use, and Black Templars are annoying when you need numbers (in which case I use normal marines, Black Templars must have the Emperor's Champion) and i'd go for Orks, lots of them and cheap, Imperial Guard, that pure fire power is devestating, and Tyranids for sheer killing, they can reallt turn the tide of a battle with Close Combat, as they are nuts there, I still remember learning how to play 40K against them, five warriors minced 30 Black Templars in 5 turns :(
conman - August 9, 2004 11:38 AM (GMT)
im thinkin about getting dark angles again r they hard to paint and r they a good army
:D

Oblivious - August 17, 2004 11:00 AM (GMT)
i reckon it wud come between chaos space marines, necrons or nids. necrons and space marines have great armour and all but nids have great fast attack and heavy support with the carnifex and raveners
conman - August 20, 2004 12:12 PM (GMT)
:D what about white scars are they any good and what would be a good starter army? :D
Silas - August 20, 2004 12:21 PM (GMT)
The white scars are a Space Marine chapter that love speed. Lots of bikes and landspeeders. Also painted white and red. Symbol is a lighning bolt...
Quite tricky to use due to less models and alot of speed...
conman - August 20, 2004 12:51 PM (GMT)
:D thanks Silas but would they be a good starter army? :D
Silas - August 20, 2004 05:09 PM (GMT)
Wouldnt say so. They are a very nice army to have, especially when made properly.
However, as a starter army i wouldnt say they were a good choice.
Unwieldy to the inexperianced.
emperors champion akeris - August 21, 2004 08:30 AM (GMT)
White scars were my first ever army. I would play a lot of asault marines going with the fast approach. Go with bike squads of more than 6 riders armed with lances and the tailsman. Also rhino rush proves most useful for getting sppeders up the flanks as they are generally more worried about 3 - 4 rhinos heading for them than a pesky speeder or 2 going un noticed down the flanks.
Black templars are a little more for advanced players i think. Sure you can win easily because of their close combat abilities but against equal combat armies (tyranids) they do struggle im afraid. The first time i played an equal combat force orks i was too afraid to charge and i just sat back and shot (be careful of zzap guns 2D6 +2. Against orks you really need to keep a solid line. If a hole is punched through your line you're gone. Also if ork stormboyz are in play, its a good idea to have a reserve unit *hint *hint assault marnies so you can be sure they dont get ambushed by some big angry orks with 4 attacks on the charge and only giving marines a 4+ save (choppa rule) and should there be a nob with a big fist or a large axe you are in serious trouble.
Also a fast approach is usually the best option. Pushing forwards is the best way against orks as generally (not all) ork players expect you to run and duck for cover and shoot while they charge straight at you.
Dark Angels are probably the most suited army for having lots of terminators, plasma weaponry and generally big armoured forces other than those dedicated to it. The downside to plasma weaponry is that it gets hot (on a roll of a 1 they blow up and gun does small ordnance cannon does large ordnance :o. The grand master
Azrael is a legend. He tore apart everything he took on and the little guy with his helmet is awesome.
Theres my thoughts. Anything you want to add (silas) or ask go ahead.
conman - August 21, 2004 09:28 AM (GMT)
 i herd they where really hard to paint is that true?
Silas - August 21, 2004 01:14 PM (GMT)
Really hard to paint? Space Marines?
No, they are quite easy compared to many other armies. White Scars are predominantly white...
Here's a link that should help you out;
White Scars
emperors champion akeris - August 22, 2004 03:31 AM (GMT)
I think compared to most chapters white scars have one of the most plain and boring colour schemes. They are a starters painting army but one of the toughest to game with tactically (i learnt over time. They have some unique minatures i know (not many in aussie dont know about the rest of the world we are a bit far behind.
conman - August 22, 2004 11:47 AM (GMT)
:D thanks still dont know what army i shold get <_< im very confused :(
conman - August 22, 2004 12:33 PM (GMT)
 what about the blood angles are they good :D or the black templers and is there anyone from chaos or any other armies like tao or nids that are good
i would like hear peoples opinions thanks :D
Erokose - August 23, 2004 10:58 AM (GMT)
I like eldar because they use my style but there are a lot of cool races.
conman - August 23, 2004 11:11 AM (GMT)
:D thanks erokose but i dont really want to collect eldar :P
dark angel 17 - August 23, 2004 05:18 PM (GMT)
It depends on your playing style. If you are CC orientated, go with BA. If you are shooty, go with DA. If you want guerilla warfare, stick with the Raven Guard and etc.
Erokose - August 24, 2004 03:48 AM (GMT)
I think you should get blood angles, they are pretty cool and I think they are the main force.
conman - August 24, 2004 09:35 AM (GMT)
;) they seem ok but i dont like the colour scheme :D
emperors champion akeris - August 24, 2004 09:53 AM (GMT)
If you want a good scheme for a beginner, but has definition try dark angels. Its basically dark angels green highlighted with goblin green/snot green. Also theres the salamanders reknowned for their firepower and low initiative for marines :o .
Or you could just paint them however the hell you want and just use the normal vanilla (codex) rules and organisation charts that dont mean jack unless you play tournaments.
