Some time ago, I posted my wish on MHVF for a compendium release of TALES FROM THE CRYPT and there was no sign of such a thing. I mentioned that i'd be first in line to buy one because they were often edited on TV 'round these parts.

Well maybe it'll happen soon. I've just discovered a french box set containing 93 episodes on 13 discs. It seems to be legitimate albeit exclusive to France but get this: the whole set is just $90 dollars. It appears to have english audio as well as French but the French subs are forced as usual. Not sure how much of a pain that'll be but i'd be happy to wait a little longer for a US or UK release that suits my needs more exactly. Perhaps I won't have long to wait. Can't wait to hear more about this development and the integrity of the content (e.g. any missing episodes or censorship).

Victor.

A couple of horror websites have reported that John Kassir, voice of the Crypt Keeper, mentioned at this year's Rue Morgue Festival of Fear that WB is releasing a boxset of Tales from the Crypt some time next year.

Doubt it will be as good a bargain as that French set though.

On most French DVDs which contain both French-dubbed and original English versions, the 'forced' French subtitles can usually be eliminated by selecting the French-dubbed track, then manually switching to the English track.

Well the possibility of a US set excites me. Still no word on the integrity of the French set but since it has French title cards and credits, I'd prefer to hold out until a UK or US release shows up. As for the price, I don't see why the US release shouldn't be the similar or cheaper than this one. No doubt the US market for TFTC is bigger and could support a cheaper list price. The packaging on the French set looks simple/cheap and I'd pay extra for a more elaborate and sturdy set. Also I'm not sure if there are any extras on this one, and given the calibre of talent and fascinating history of the series, I would love to see a plethora of additional footage and commentaries. I believe there's a DVD documentary released in the US that covers a lot of the history of the magazine and it's numerous run-ins with moral majority. If they could include that kind of stuff along with deleted scenes or star commentaries, i'd really be psyched.

That may be true, but corporations being what they are, the market being bigger would probably encourage them to stretch out the series over as many releases as possible. Hopefully they'll settle for season sets though. I'm sure they'll get some decent extras(hopefully some commentaries by some of the big name guest directors).
