I have not bought a dvd in over a year...but I couldn't help myself!
Picked up LA JETEE/SANS SOLEIL and BURDEN OF DREAMS.
I think these may the last dvd's* I ever purchase - I finally bought a HDTV (a nice, used Sony WEGA 30" tube found on eBay - still waiting for a KD-34XBR960 to appear on eBay that is within driving distance) and I am now saving my pennies for a blu-ray player and several of Criterion's first blu-ray releases!
* Of course I mean standard definition dvd's - I'll be buying plenty of HD discs. The only SD dvd's that could tempt me are the Ranown cycle which are coming to home video later this year... and I hope they will be arriving on blu-ray too.

FYI: Criterion's new High And Low set comes out on the 22nd.
Bob Cashill - July 21, 2008 11:54 PM (GMT)
And also, for tomorrow, VAMPYR.

But, I'm guessing any Criterions not on the list won't count for the sale.

Has anyone tried applying the code to HIGH AND LOW now that it's released? Also, the older STRAY DOG isn't listed in the main page and appears out of stock. I can't imagine why it's excluded unless it's being upgraded and there's no further stock. At the very least it needs replacing because they misspelled Kurosawa on one of the onscreen menus.
I had bought SANJURO/YOJIMBO double set in the earlier 20% off sale, just missing this better offer by a couple weeks, nevertheless the quality and beauty of that set just makes me want to get as many more Criterion titles as I can. They really are outstandingly packaged labours of love. My only concern is the windowboxing issue that keeps cropping up. Not having a plasma/lcd/hd screen, I can't see what the fuss is or how bad it is. Does anyone have a link to a screenshot of a 4:3 windowboxed title as it appears on a typical 16:9 digital display?
