Title: LEGEND FILMS . . .
Description: BEST BUY strikes again . . .
Wade Sowers - May 7, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
. . . I just learned from Ms. Lindsay Luecht of LEGEND FILMS that the next batch of their Paramount releases, expected to be available for purchase on their site this month, will now be available only at a select group of 100 BEST BUY stores (I don't know how one is supposed to figure out which 100 stores these will be as they seem almost as omnipresent as STARBUCKS) around the first of July - these films would seem to include THE SENDER, THE DEALY BEES, PHASE IV, FRAMED, and THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH . . . personally, I do not care much for this sort of distribution deal . . .

I assume they will be available via all the on-line retailers as the first group of titles are going to be. I think it's just getting harder and harder for catalog titles to show up at all in big B&M chain stores. I know Borders doesn't seem to carry much at all these days as far as new catalog titles either. Maybe the only way Legend could even make a deal with Best Buy to carry them at all is with this ridiculous limited distribution deal. I know Legend also made a deal with Target for a very limited number of their stores to carry the first group of titles, but the couple of Targets in my immediate vicinity didn't have them. And I'm not going to go on a wild goose chase further out.
In other words, I'll buy them on-line unless I just happen to bump into them at my local Best Buy.

The Best Buy near me seems to rarely carry catalog titles anymore, giving me absolutely no reason to shop there.

The implciation on the Legend website is that you won't be able to buy them on line at all.
Unlike The Skull, ZPG etc you can't buy these other films off their own website. This seems absolutely ludicrous to me. As an overseas (non US) buyer I simply won't be able to get them.

Xploited Cinema will be carrying all of the Legend Films releases.

It looks like Netflix may be carrying them. I currently have MANDINGO atop my queue.

Thank goodness for Exploited and, for renting, Netflix.
You want to know people's solutions for these ridiculously limited Best Buy deals? Hint: They're on the net. :/.
Maybe distributors ought to think about this when getting into these "Exclusive" deals that serve no one, in the end.

They serve the Best Buy employees who snap them all up and sell them on eBay quite well.

The Best Buy employees in my area are too busy horsing around with each other and playing the video games they're supposed to be selling to even open the boxes and shelve the product. I can't imagine any of them sitting through 5 minutes of FRAMED or PHASE IV, let alone realizing that they could sell either of them on eBay for a profit.

When they open the boxes and see the 'Best Buy exclusive' sticker, they'll know what to do.
