Title: PRIVILEGE (1967)
Description: finally on its way . . .

. . . well, it looks like this Peter Watkins dystopian rock and roll satire of a Fascist British Government using a singer to co-opt Youth and keep it under control (until his final act of rebellion) is coming out on DVD - hopefully, it will be done by the same people who did the nice transfers of other Watkins' films and released them via NEW YORKER . . . it has been a long wait for this one as I have only seen it once when it was first released and have never forgotten some of the images - good work by Paul Jones as the singer Shorter whose performances are presented as large scale production numbers (that turn increasingly anti-Government), the sort of thing that seemed very strange at the time the movie was released, but sort of became a pop music norm during the next decade . . . I remember it being trashed at the time of release (I loved it), but many of the ideas expressed appear to have stood the test of time . . .

. . . glad to see you're getiing into the spirit of the 60s, Michael, but for those who might not have seen it - I assume these are legion - this movie is a lot more Orwell than WILD IN THE STREETS (1968) . . .
