Title: THE DARK KNIGHT poster explodes!
William D'Annucci - April 25, 2008 06:38 AM (GMT)
Might as well blow my 1,000th post on something like this:
Welcome To A World Without RulesIntense. I really like it. And I can see how it is really going to anger some. Thoughts?

I saw this poster last night and had no idea what you were talking about for a moment or two. I hope it doesn't casuse any anger, as I think/hope my reaction is typical.

What would make people angry?
I LOVE this poster. Really eye catching and does a good job of beginning to describe what happens to Batman's life once the Joker enters it, setting up one of the most complex and dynamic hero/villain relationships in history, imho.

I don't think it will become a major problem, but the tagline and background images reference 9-11. And I could see how some would not like a comic book adventure film using 9-11 imagery for promotion.

There wasn't much noise about 'Osama bin Ghul' or Bruce Wayne being pressured to go all John Walker Lindh the first time around, but promotional advertising probably has a better chance of catching the eye of pundits looking to manufacture controversy then would actually watching a film and catching its thematic undercurrents as they're presented in context.

Sort of how my adolescent escapades made dealing with our parents easier for my younger brother when he later went through his own escapades, I should think the CLOVERFIELD bruhaha (which actually was pretty minor overall, considering...) will pretty much take care of any potential upset over the DARK KNIGHT poster.

but that is what The Joker does. He hurts people for the sake of a laugh.
I hope it will be a good movie. I'm not excited about Heath as The Joker but I'm willing to be suprised.

I'm not too crazy over how The Joker is being interpreted here, with him wearing makeup instead of being naturally that way, but the live game that's been running is a clever way to immerse oneself in the events between this and BATMAN BEGINS, and i think the poster is great.
As for the whole 9/11 thing. If any controversy should arise, then I think people need to worry about other things.

Not that I really want to know... but is that a confirmed thing? I usually try to stay away from pre-release press, but I feel like I've read enough AICN-type stuff to have heard that before. If that's the case, I have faith in Nolan to make it a compelling enough character angle, though.

Seeing the trailer and shots, i believe so. Supposedly, part of the story revolves around this, though. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's an interesting concept. I just think the idea of a deformed, instead of scarred, completely insane, Joker has much more appeal, imho.
