Now through May 4 is a good stage play based on, of all things, Francis Ford Coppola's great 1974 film THE CONVERSATION. The production, at 29th Street Rep through May 4, hails from Chicago, and is very well-done. I blogged a bit about it. If it hits, maybe THE GODFATHER or ONE FROM THE HEART will be next. :)

Or the one I'd like to see... DEMENTIA 13.

But first, BATTLE BEYOND THE SUN... :)

29th Street Rep is a good company and one that had the good sense to do a couple of my plays back in 1993. They are remakable for a strong core group of actors - no dead weight. I remember seeing an unknown Edward Norton starring in their production of Bill Nave's BIBLE BURLESQUE and their production of Tracey Letts' KILLER JOE was very impressive a decade or so ago. 29th Street Rep was a model for a lot of start-up theatre companies in New York (among them my own, Lightning Strikes) that didn't have a tenth their success.

This is 29th's first production in two years. Reviews have been mixed but I liked it, and the sound design is terrific. KILLER JOE was amazing--as I'm sure the RHS plays were--but I don't think I saw it there. (Bank St., maybe?)
