Title: Joss Whedon returning to tv
Description: DOLLHOUSE
Lisa Larkin - April 8, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
Somehow news of this show escaped me until just recently. The premise is intriguing. A group of amnesiac agents have their personalities programmed for specific assignments. During their downtime, their memories are wiped and they live [sleep?] in the 'dollhouse' until their next assignment. Until one of them wakes up. Eliza Dushku [aka Faith the vampire slayer] plays the puppet who achieves consciousness. Tahmoh Penikett [Helo on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA] plays an FBI agent investigating the mysterious dollhouse. Olivia Williams [THE SIXTH SENSE, RUSHMORE] runs the place.
Whedon is doing this show for Fox, who haven't exactly been supportive of his projects in the past. Let's hope it doesn't get relegated to the timeslot-o'-death like FIREFLY.

And -- I know, I ask for too much -- maybe Fox'll actually show the episodes in the correct order this time. I can hope, right?

Funny you bring that up. I just saw the FIREFLY pilot for the first time over the weekend, and I'm amazed at how stupid Fox was for burying it late in the run. For crying out loud, it explains the entire series concept and explains who each character is and why he/she is on the spaceship. I never saw the show on Fox, but I watched SERENITY last year and was as hopelessly lost as I imagine most viewers were when the network jumbled the episode order.
BTW, Universal HD is airing FIREFLY reruns, and they look phenomenal (on my Sony Bravia 40" 1080p HDTV, that is). I liked the pilot much more than I expected to, and probably more than I would have on DVD or on TV (my Fox affiliate broadcasts a picture so lousy, it makes one wish for a UHF signal). If you're a fan of the show, try to catch the Universal HD airings.

TV Shows on DVD.com is reporting that Fox has a Blu-ray release of Firefly in the works too.

Wasn't it also Fox that canned Tim Minear's DRIVE? Whedon must be a sucker for punishment!
Marty McKee - April 9, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
But DRIVE was a genuinely bad show. And Fox did show it in its correct order!

Wow, great concept! Excited!
Eliza Dushku ...plays the puppet who achieves consciousness.
Much less excited now.

Dollhouses! :)
I'm there!

Whedon is allaying fan concerns by saying he's working with a whole new group of people at Fox, and meeting with far more support than FIREFLY enjoyed... One hopes there are contractual safeguards in place, as well. Apparently the network is forgoing financing a pilot in favor of building sets for DOLLHOUSE, which is encouraging.
As excited as I'd be for Blu-Ray FIREFLY (and that's pretty gorram excited)... Fox needs to do something about the BUFFY & ANGEL DVDs, and do it stat. They're all interlacey and jaggy and missing-the-"previously-ons"-y. Do the SUCCESSFUL shows first, you guys! Yeesh.

Hmmmm. I have the exact oposite reaction.
Plot description sounds blah, but if Eliza is in it I'll give it a shot.

Oh, what?
Pilot script review, that's what!
Lisa Larkin - April 17, 2008 06:17 AM (GMT)
Wow. This is looking better and better. But seven episodes? Is that all there is or is that all Fox are committing to upfront?
Jay Gillespie - April 18, 2008 02:40 AM (GMT)
That's all they committed to upfront, which was before there was even a
script for the pilot, which means it really isn't a "pilot" in the traditional sense, just the first episode of a series.
http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...Lures/800026169Whedon notes, "I told them I was interested in writing a pilot, and they gave me seven episodes. They’ve already shown more support for it than I have."
