Title: Michael Haneke to direct episode of DEXTER

Brad Stevens - April 1, 2008 10:05 AM (GMT)
While in the UK promoting the release of his US remake of FUNNY GAMES, Michael Haneke announced that he will be co-writing and directing a fortchcoming episode of DEXTER. Apparently, Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet will reprise their roles as the two serial killers from FUNNY GAMES in this episode, and will finally receive their just desserts at the hands of Dexter. Haneke admitted that he was not a fan of the series, which he found "morally repugnant", but insisted that he relished the opportunity of "making television viewers confront the implications of their appetite for violence". Haneke also revealed that Warner Bros had approached him with the idea of turning FUNNY GAMES into a franchise, and that he had decided to kill off the characters as a way of preventing that from happening.

You gave it a shot.

And a spoiler.

So... wait, is this a joke? Goddamnit, I just told an editor I met this news. Now, I feel like Elaine Benes in that War and Peace bit in Seinfield.

Welcome to the Internet. We sold out newspapers and bookstores for this.

You're just jealous that your publishing turnaround doesn't allow for you to compose whole issues of this stuff for April 1st - you can't fool me, you Ackermonster Acolyte™!

Didn't Brad do April Fools post last year?

What a prankster!

Go write another book on some obscure filmmaker, OK? ;)

I have to admit though, I was suckered for ten minutes by last year's PLAY MISTY FOR ME gag. You'll never work in April Foolstown again, Stevens.

If FUNNY GAMES {US} actually made any money, I could believe this. In fact, I'd rather see Haneke do something like this than remake his own films.
