Even though I already had an imported copy of Johnnie To's PTU, I decided to spring for the Dragon Dynasty version to obtain the additional features (interviews, Bey Logan commentary, English dub). What jumped out at me immediately upon removing the disc from it's shipping box was the cover design and it's ridiculously false advertising.
If anyone has seen the film, you know it's a rather methodically paced, atmospheric film, that saves it's biggest burst of action for the conclusion. So, why does the cover depict Simon Yam holding guns in both hands (something he doesn't do in the film), sans his beret (no big deal, but I think it's on his head the entire running time), with a HELICOPTER FLYING IN FRONT OF AN EXPLODING BUILDING? At no time does a scene with that content take place---no helicopter and no exploding building.
Do the Weinstein's pander to the lowest common denominator in all things? On some level I guess it's consistent with editing films they procure until they've lost the very essence of what made them worth acquiring. If some unsuspecting soul were to pick up PTU on the strength of the cover, they're bound to come away disappointed by it.
