Title: THE SONS OF EL TOPO
Description: Whats the story behind this?

I wonder if anyone knows what happened with this long annoynced project?
Someone told me that due to some copyright problems, jodorowsky changed the title to ABELCAIN.
But what about the film?Is it filming?Or cancelled?
And what the heck is the problem with allen klein?I heard rumors that he has burned the original negatives from EL TOPO and HOLY MOUNTAIN.
If thats so,for what reason???

Not sure about the fate of SONS OF EL TOPO, but since Jodorowsky's recent burying-of-the-hatchet with Allen Klein, I would assume that any copyright issues with Jodo's use of the "El Topo" character have since evaporated. And although this is based simply on internet hearsay, it seems that we should be finally seeing official DVD releases of both EL TOPO and THE HOLY MOUNTAIN in the very near future, so I think it's unlikely that Klein destroyed the negatives. Unlikely, but not impossible. <_<

Let's hope SONS OF EL TOPO (with Marilyn Manson, perhaps?) will eventually get the green light.

...Or yet another possible title SONS OF THE DESERT. Every year at Cannes and MIFED, there are new fliers promoting it under a different title, and every year passes with no new film. His films are a risk financially, apparently. Maybe some day we'll see it.
Regarding his back catalog... a lot of people are probably very unhappy with the quality of the Italian Raro DVDs of HOLY MOUNTAIN (attrocious and cut) and EL TOPO (a lot better, but still not great), but an American DVD has been rumored for a long time -from Klein films. The audio was remastered a few years ago, and Jody Klein (who runs the business for her father Allen) has maintained that ABKCO will be releasing the films themselves. I hung on to my Japanese laserdiscs (from Amuse), but I never replaced them with the Japanese DVDs (VERY expensive box set even by Japanese standards). The FANDO Y LIS DVD from Fantomas and The SANTA SANGRE DVD from Anchor Bay UK are marvelous, though. How long must we wait for RAINBOW THEIF and TUSK? They are surely minor Jodorowski titles, but worth seeing. I'd pull my teeth to hear a commentary track with TUSK, often maligned by the director himself.
There was a great BBC show THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE FILM SHOW, hosted by Jonathan Ross, that ran a fantastic documentary on the man. I'd love to get a good copy of that whole series. They also did shows on John Waters, H.G. Lewis, Ray Dennis Steckler, Ted V. Mikels, Russ Meyer, Sam Raimi, Ed Wood, George Romero & Tom Savini, El Santo, Tsui Hark & Stuart Gordon, Fred Olen Ray & Doris Wishman, and Jackie Chan.
I'm drooling over a boxset that will never get released because it would cost Brewsters millions to clear all the clips.

Last I heard he was planning a couple of mafia pictures. I've linked the article I read this in below. He also claims to have a desire to be in a Franco film ... though he comes off kind of patronizing when he says it.

That seems like an older article, since it mentions that he's "just finished" a commentary for an overseas DVD of SANTA SANGRE, and that DVD was released many, many months ago, plus it's been reported that he's finally burried the hatchet with Allen Klien since then, to boot.

Regarding TUSK, Chris Mitchum had a couple of amusing anecdotes from the shoot (concerning Jodorowsky's less-than-reassuring approach to health and safety issues) on the Shriek Show DVD of Franco's FACELESS, IIRC.

Is it true that he was asked to make the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy before jackson?

It is an older article, I should have clarified.

When I las t spoke to Jodorowsky (during the SANTA SANGRE extras production) his opinion on TUSK had changed. He said to me that with a little re-cutting it would make a fantastic children's movie. I've seen TUSK in a licensor's catalog, so who knows - it's available, so anything is possible.
