Title: My latest faux exploitation movie poster

Ian McDowell - March 18, 2008 04:26 AM (GMT)
Some of you may recall that, every year, I do a mock exploitation movie poster for Tate Street Coffee's annual Coffee Art Show. Past works include JAVA JEZEBELS, THE BLOOD-SPLATTERED BARRISTA, ESPRESSORELLA and THE WOMAN FROM C.O.F.F.E.E. These can be seen in the "My Artwork" folder in the "additional pics" folder of my MySpace profile at www.myspace.com/ianmcdowell.

This year, it's some prehistorical pulchitrude, starring my friend Julie and with the unwilling assitance of my pet iguana. For those locals (I know there's at least one here) who may want to see more of Julie, she's directing, producing and appearing (as "Betti Bullet") in the spy-odelic themed "Shaken, Not Stirred" Burlesque Show being held in the Regency Room in downtown Greensboro, NC on Sunday, March 30th. Tickets available from www.gatecityboxoffice.org Unfortunately, Jules doesn't want to steal the limelight from her "Stiletto Starlets" troupe, and won't actually be as scantily clad as she is here, although many of the other ladies will.

This image is as work-safe as a pin-up photo of Raquel Welch or Victoria Vetri would be.

Correction, the URL for the tickets for the retro-spy burlesque show is:

www.gatecityboxoffice.com

(I apologize for spamming, but Julie contributed a lot to this for free, and if she sells another ticket or two because of this posting, I'll feel less in her debt).

Here's the ad I designed for it, with Julie adopting the pose of the body-painted model in the 1960s "Casino Royale" poster.

Getting back to the actual subject of this post, I should mention that my lovely friend Nikki not only did a splendid job of taking the actual photos, but she created Julie's cheetah print ensemble from a pyjama top purchased at a local thrift store. And my friend Doc the Biker Paramedic was admirably un-self-conscious, showing off rather more of himself than you actually see (thank God) in the finished product.

Much like the co-stars of One Million B.C. and the Irwin Allen The Lost World, Ajay did not enjoy the process and kept trying to bite the camera, but at least he didn't have to loose a fight with a dino-gator. On the actual poster, the toymaker's logo is quite visible on the plastic pteranodon, a deliberate touch on my part.
