yeah, I knew about MAD DOG from talking with Phillipe Mora, but when are they going to release THE CHILDREN? I do hope they get the director's participation, as when I spoke with him, he was very eager to do commentary. And hopefully they can release the lost Sidney Punk film MAN FROM O.R.G.Y, that spy spoof with Robert walker and Slappy White and Frank Rossi as thye acquired that one as well.
bruce holecheck - October 24, 2004 05:32 PM (GMT)
The last I heard, THE CHILDREN was going to be double-featured on their LUTHER THE GEEK disc.
Jeff McKay - October 24, 2004 09:41 PM (GMT)
ALBINO ?!?!? That awful 1975 flick with Christopher Lee and Sybil Danning? I can't wait!
Adam Tyner - October 25, 2004 03:54 AM (GMT)
Troma is, or at least was (dunno the current status), considering making this re-release of The Toxic Avenger be their first anamorphic widescreen release. It'll be interesting to see if that happens...

Re: widescreen releases, from the Troma FAQ:
| QUOTE |
Why aren't videos and DVDs shown in wide-screen format?
Many people would like to know why our films are not shown on wide-screen format, particularly in regards to our DVDs. They assume that because the top and bottom of the screen are not cropped that they are being deprived of some crucial cinematic element. In fact when the major studios crop these shots, the only thing you are not seeing is the lights and microphones.
Lloyd Kaufman chooses to shoot in what is known as full-aperture. This is the way it was shot, exactly as Lloyd saw it in the camera, and has not been re-formatted in any way. Furthermore, the shot is just as wide as wide-screen, only Troma includes the top and the bottom of the picture as well. It is an artistic decision and the shots are framed for this aspect ratio. Should a director request their films be shown with the black bars, we naturally would honor the request, as we did with Dario Argento on The Stendhal Syndrome. |

I'm well-aware of that FAQ entry and not particularly sure why you copied and pasted it.
From Edward Havens, one of the webmasters at Troma, from September 22nd (considerably more recent than that entry in the FAQ):

| Troma is working on a 21st Anniversary Edition DVD of The Toxic Avenger, and one of the features we are looking into including is an anamorphic widescreen presentation. If it happens, it would be the first for Troma. |
Todd Harbour - October 25, 2004 04:59 PM (GMT)
Well, there are other readers here besides you, Adam. I'd never read the FAQ myself (not that I'm a big Troma guy), so I appreciated Kate posting the reference. It does make one wonder how an anamorphic widescreen release of THE TOXIC AVENGER will be done if it was photographed and intended to be viewed 4:3 (assuming the FAQ catch-all ropes in all Kaufman/Herz films).

I understand, and I didn't mean that in a snotty way -- just that it seemed like she posted that quote as a response to what I posted since no one made mention of widescreen releases other than me, but that FAQ entry doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the possibility of Troma releasing The Toxic Avenger in widescreen. Since Toxie was filmed with a theatrical release in mind (though presumably taking TV/home video into account as well) and was presumably matted in those theatrical screenings, I wouldn't think that the movie would suffer from being presented in widescreen.

The Troma Laserdisc was matted at 1.85:1 and looked perfect. I for one am a Troma nut and just hope they can get their DVD standards up current DVD standards, some of there newer releases have looked better but some of the DVD's give me a dirty porno fell circa 1998 :ph43r: . There Workprint for Toxie 4 was WS also and had a better feel that their Full Frame DVD
Kate Duffy - October 26, 2004 03:50 AM (GMT)
I wasn't posting the FAQ to be obnoxious or anything, I just had the same question as Todd. The usual point of widescreen is to give home viewers the full picture, but in Troma's case, non-widescreen IS the full picture, and widescreen would be cropped. So, if I'm understanding that correctly, I'm not sure why they're doing it.
Anyway, I'm pretty excited about THE CHILDREN on DVD, and I even emailed Troma to confirm it... they said it would be released on its own disc, not as a double feature [hopefully meaning more CHILDREN extras]! Hurrah!

Does Troma still have the rights to Marc Lawrence's PIGS (which I think they had scheduled for release as DEMENTED DEATH FARM MASSACRE)? If so, I can steer them to a unique variant print which is quite different from the oft-circulated DADDY'S DEADLY DARLING version that I suspect they ported over.
For that matter, do they still control THE CENTERFOLD GIRLS? I'd like to see that get a better release than they are likely to give it on DVD.
Casey Scott - October 28, 2004 10:08 PM (GMT)
Well, I can safely see that I don't care for anything on that list except for VIDEO VIXENS. Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith's Twinkle Twat girl is one of the funniest things I've ever seen!
I don't think Troma owns CENTERFOLD GIRLS anymore.

the answer is no, and they never actually ever did. ;)

They leased the rights out to BCI Elcipse, which just recently released it in a DVD 3 pack called TOXIE'S TRIPLE TERROR Vol.1
I'd love to see that alternate version but unless it comes out on a different region DVD i doubt Troma will release it. :(
Hans-Martin Rectanus - November 2, 2004 07:56 PM (GMT)
That's an impressive list of movies we can expect from Troma. But can anyone tell me what happened to "Parts of The Family". I think it is almost a year since information about that movie appeared on the Troma website and I keep checking the Website over and over again just to read that they are adding more scenes to it. So has anyone information what is going on with the release of that movie?

Just to clarify, DEMENTED DEATH FARM MASSACRE: THE MOVIE is a Fred Olen Ray film, not Marc Lawrence's PIGS.
Ray took Donn Davison's 1971 picture HONEY BRITCHES and added some new footage of John Carradine to it. His title was DEATH FARM; Troma made it even sillier. That is the film included on TOXIE VOL. 1
