Title: S.S HELL CAMP any good?

Dean DeMarco - January 12, 2005 12:43 AM (GMT)
Saw the dvd today of S.S HELL CAMP from MB/SS, at my local Best Buy, and was wondering if anyone out here got it yet and how it is overall? Never saw the movie or anything, and just wondering if it's a worthwhile purchase?

Thanks,

Dean

Depends on what your definition of worthwhile is really Dean.

The film itself is a rather tawdry concoction made of splicing one Italian war film made i believe in the late 1960's by the films director and new Nazi exploitaion material shot to liven the whole thing up.

Having said that i'm rather fond of this silly little film. Sure by most peoples standards it's no good and some of the torture scenes, Although nowhere near as srtong as most other Nazi exploitaion filicks from the same period can be said to be tasteless in the extreme it's all rather inoffensive and dare i say it fun.

The disc itself is pretty good. Seeing as the original source elements for the film probably were not that great to start with i think they have done a very good job.
The extras are obviously nothing to write home about, But in all honesty did anyone ever think that this would show up on DVD in an anomorphic widescreen vesion to boot anyway!

In conclusion: It's a very personal choice. I see a fun, Stupid exploitaion flick. You on the other hand may just see a pointless, Boring mess.

THE BEAST IN HEAT is a film that shouldn't be missing from any collection. It's one of the trashiest films ever made with unbelievable performance by Sal Borgese as the beast that rapes Jewish virgins to death. Any movie with a raping, hairy beast is fine with me :D

It's obvious that the war scenes are stock footage- there are even black & white shots in it- at least in my old Greek VHS. I just got the disc and seems good. The lack of extras is a minus though but to be honest I never believed I'd watch this in such a nice print.

This is a film that words cannot describe so ... get it!

I'd say if you seen and like other naziploitation movies then this is a must for you, while i personally like these alot, i wouldnt exactly call them "good movies".

With that said, ive already bought and watched SS Hell Camp, it had more plot than some of the others ive seen, the tortures wasnt that tought to watch, yet not easy either. Quality seemed fine, no good extras, but like the others i didnt expect it either.

Message for Lefteris.

It's NOT Sal Borgese as the Beast - that would be worrying - but Italian comic actor Salvatore Baccarro (under the pseudonym Sal BORIS) as the eponymous Beast. ;)

I do enjoy most Naziploitation movies I've seen. This is the first I've ever heard of this movie, & it does sound like something I'd enjoy. I'm always up for some senseless fun, when the mood arises. I was going to have a question about the B&W footage, as I read on some site (can't remember which, at the moment), that it seemed to state that the movie itself was in B&W. So that cleared that question up as well. I'll more than likely pick it up on payday this week.

Thanks for your input folks. Much appreciated!!!!!

Just got this from Deep Discount DVD today(as well as Cannibal Apocalypse and the Jungle Girl serial). I'll post my thoughts in the next day or so.

You've got to smile at a film which can't even spell its opening titles correctly. The UK "Video Nasty" edition opened with this marvellous garbling of the English language: "THE BEAST IN HEAT - HORRIFING EXPERIMENTS OF S.S. LAST DAYS".

As for the film itself...alternately tedious, appalling and hilarious. Trash heaven. And the image of recently-outed Nazisploitation archivist Jean-Luc Godard watching Sal Boris peeling off a strip of (outrageously fake) pubic hair from a screaming Italian starlet, then eating it, somehow makes this crazy world we live in a much happier place.

Wow, now I'm really anxious to see this. That's outrageous.

Okay, just finished watching this, quite a bit of fun actually. More engaging plot than say, the Ilsa films, didn't make me as queasy as most films with lots of torture scenes do. Perhaps it's because the ambitions and antics of the villains in this film were so over-the-top that it veers into almost pulp fantasy territory.

The picture quality was extremely impressive, there was some lines in the print at some points, and the stock footage was rather noticeably more speckled with dirt than the "new" footage, in this respect I think the excellent quality of the picture almost hurts the film, since the transitions between different film stocks is very apparant. I didn't try zooming in to see if there was excessive edge enhancement, but it looked rather film-like on my tv.

Overall I'd say it's a great example of it's genre. Not as dreary as the nazi exploitation genre sometimes gets, without sacrificing the sleaze we demand of it.

After watching the movie twice, I can only say that the disc is flawless and the transfer looks great considering the film's obscurity.

I heard a rumour that Media Blasters would also release GESTAPO'S LAST ORGY. Can anyone confirm this?

John Sirabella - January 16, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
Can not confirm Gestapo's Last Orgy but can confirm the following:

Porno Holocasut
Images of a Convent
Lager SSADIS Kastrat Kommandantur

There will be more...

BTW, I heard that the LIAWS has been closed but it ended with someone quoting me about not getting a chance to reply. The quote is correct but I said it the day I tried to sign on through the system but it was filled. I wrote to Todd and he gave me account right away so I was wrong and Todd gave me an account as all can see....

Just wanted that cleared up...

Very well. At this point I suggest to unlock the two threads in order to allow John Sirabella to answer.

This is indeed being released through Music Video Distribution - so it would appear that it's a bootleg. I'd suggest it's well worth waiting for the MB release.

Hmmm...weren't "Music Video Distribution" also responsible for that outrageous UK bootleg DVD double-bill of ISLAND OF LOST SOULS and MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM a few years ago? (Their catalogue also promised a future release of FREAKS, also very obviously not a property they could legitimately lay claim to.) I was foolish enough to buy that SOULS/MUSEUM disc in the early, naive days of DVD collecting when I assumed everyone would be pulling out all the stops to offer pristine A/V quality on classic titles...My god, was I wrong. Imagine the most unbelievably wretched 16mm prints, stored in a pig-sty for sixty years (which presumably survived being burned to the ground at some point along the way): image almost totally indecipherable behind a blizzard of scratches and assorted print damage. Needless to say, the disc went back to the e-tailer with a strongly worded warning regarding the risks of selling bootleg material... How the distributors managed to get these discs into legitimate high-street stores without Universal or Warner legal departments blowing a fuse is beyond me.

We are going off topic but the same is going on here in Greece with bootleg companies that manage to get distribution into big street stores. The stores don't check if the discs are legit or not. And as for the copyright holders, they usually don't even bother.

At least the Island/Wax Museum discs actually had the right films on them. I ordered the Freaks DVD at the same time, but when you put it in the player you get a Mannheim Steamroller Christmas program! Not exactly what you were looking for. I still have it mostly as a curiosity and since shipping it back to England would have just been good money after bad. :P
