This blog is pretty funny, although some of the comments will make you fear for the human race (especially "Portnoy's complaint" on this page) but they ought to change the name to "stuff college-educated urban liberals" like or even the dreaded "stuff hipsters like." Last time I checked, NASCAR was far more popular with white people than the films of Wes Anderson and Michel Gondry. Ditto country music and Mos Def, or Larry the Cable Guy and Dane Cook versus Sarah Silverman.

That is a good blog, and hits a little too close to home!

It's funny that we pushed THE WIRE since season one, with limited success. It wasn't until season 3 came out and the big New York Times push that we are now seeing a near-hysteria status for it. All white people of course.

How can I get the Times to love the new DOCTOR WHO? It's some of the most expensive dvds that I stock, and would love to see some return on my investment!

They didn't mention THE WIRE is being re-run on B.E.T.

Did you ever notice how black people drive like this?

But white people drive like this?

I just rented out the Ist season of THE WIRE and was completely hooked by the 5th episode---I'll definitely re-rent that and finish it the first chance I get. It is a good show that treats all its of its characters like full, complex human beings, no matter how messed up, evil or whacked out they all are,at different levels of society, which is what makes the show so fascinating to watch.

A funny WIRE-related thing happened to me while I was waiting at a bus stop ( I went and saw both CLOVERFIELD & NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, which my brother, who's also a film freak like me, recommended---both turned out to be really good films) I glanced at the streetlight pole in front of me and noticed that someone had written there on the side facing me: RIP Stringer Bell. I LMAO at the fact that apparently some was big enough of a WIRE fan to write that there--it's just that it was the last place I ever thought I'd see a WIRE dedication, of all things! :D Anyway, the show lived up to the hype and then some for me--even my sig nif got a peek at the WIRE DVD and was kind of impressed. Frankly, the issues that the show deals with are almost similar to issues people here in the D deal with on a daily basis, so it's not hard to imagine it having somewhat of a following here.

Also a lot of black folks like the show, too, so it's not just white folks who love it to death,either---contrary to what SWPL claims. Here's some discussion of it on this site:

As someone who lives in Baltimore and works at Johns Hopkins hospital, I can assure you that black folks like THE WIRE too.

And from what I understand, it isn't so much that white people like Mos Def as it is that black people wonder what happened to him. He's gone from being a strong rap musician to someone who seems more than a little bit aloof and detached with each of his last two albums getting progressively worse. Meanwhile, his former Black Star partner, Talib Kweli is just as strong as ever.

For the record I'm caucasian, but I learn from my coworkers and acquaintances at work. B)

Plus, I listen to Talib Kweli and have stopped listening to Mos Def and I don't think I'm alone in that.
