Title: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK...
Description: THE ADAPTATION

Marty Langford - February 29, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
I'm sure most of you have heard about this shot-for-shot remake of RAIDERS by 11 year olds from 1981-1989. Well I've just watched it and it's an astonishingly charming piece of work. Some of the workarounds and ideas these kids came up with to copy the film are nothing short of... well, I hesitate to say "genius", but it's what I wanted to write.

I truly, truly hope that Daniel Clowes' script is eventually produced by Scott Rudin, who optioned the "life rights" to the guys' story. I'm not sure where it is in development, but this a story that I'm just dying to see.

I'd much rather see this crazy kiddie remake (just where the hell were their parents when these lil' maniacs were lighting themselves on fire?) than the new Spielberg-Lucas installment. Is The Adaptation seeing some kind of DVD release?

For me, the best thing so far about Crystal Skull is that they are finally releasing Raiders individually on DVD, so I can finally buy it without being burdened with the other two Indys.

I didn't even realize there was much information about Crystal Skull, to base an opinion on yet. ...I guess it's not looking promising?

It's mostly that I'm just not that interested in a new Indiana Jones movie, period.

Instead of doing another jacked-up version of Saturday matinee serial adventures, wouldn't it be more interesting if Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford did some kind of jacked-up version of classic Hitchcock romantic-thrillers? At his age, I think I'd accept Ford more as some Roger Thornhill type of character.

Or judging from Ford's presentation of the best original screenplay Oscar, a Leo G. Carroll type of character...
