Title: Mister Rogers tribute
Description: "Won't you wear a sweater?" Day

I loved this show as a tot, particularly when the trolly brought us into the "land of make-believe" where grumpy Lady Elaine Fairchilde was often allowed to be her grumpy self but the other characters didn't allow her negativity to affect their outlook - so brilliant! The whole show was so calm and tactile and sent my imagination reeling and my confidence soaring. This man had correct values and in honor of MR's 80'th I certainly will wear my favorite sweater March 20 - it even has a zipper!

A tribute to children's public television pioneer Fred Rogers will include an effort to get people everywhere to wear a sweater on what would have been his 80th birthday.

March 20th is being promoted as "Sweater Day" to honor Rogers, who died of cancer five years ago. A sweater was his trademark garb on "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."

David Newell, who played speedy deliveryman Mr. McFeely on the show, appears in a YouTube video that touts the event.

"Sweater Day" is the capstone to a six-day celebration planned by Family Communications Inc. of Pittsburgh. Rogers created the company to produce his show.

Did he wear a cardigan or a slip-on?

Jennifer Young - February 27, 2008 10:59 PM (GMT)
According to Wikipedia he wore a different cardigan in each episode. His cardigans were made by his mother and grandmother.

I don't like sweaters. Except cotton ones from the Gap. And except Cardigans, which I haven't worn since high school because no one ever gives me one and I've never found one in any place that I shop. Do they even make Cardigans anymore? If I can find one I'd be happy to wear it on March 20.

I can dig up one of old Cardigans, or likely the only one I still have that's wearable. Though i think I'll look a bit odd in it.

I suddenly have it in mind to spread this idea amongst the schools and see how many kids will go long. "Cue in diabolical laughter and thunder storm".
