Title: DARK SHADOWS DVD double feature coming out?
Description: Finally?

I'm hearing that the long awaited HOUSE/NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS double feature is finally coming out this Summer?

Is this true, and has NIGHT been restored?

Where'd ya hear it, for starters?

Yes, Dominick, where did you hear this rumor?

I actually read a post by Filmmaker
Donald Farmer over at Fred Olen Ray's
Retromedia board in which he said that he is reading various reports about this. I should have said that in my first posting.

After reading that though, I thought I would see if anything has been confirmed.

"Hoping for anything positive"

The release was scheduled for last fall, then spring this year, but pulled with an eye towards keeping them back to tie in with a Johnny Depp DS movie, should that come to fruition, and with the thought that the extra value that would give the titles, MIGHT enable the powers that be to budget a NODS restoration.

As the restoration has not been greenlighted at this point, it's most likely for the best.

This has got to be getting just about past agonizing for you, Darren.

They're waiting for the movie to be released?! Gads, that's what, maybe 3 years from now?

On the other hand, I do suppose that it would encourage a restoration and these will likely be a Blue Ray release, as well.

Glad I'm still young enough to wait.

How about they DON'T do a new (shudder ) DS film, and just throw some money into complete, restored DVD releases of the two there already are?

That's how I feel, anyway. Unless they can get Diane Wiest to play Julia Hoffman. :)

I don't get the endless heel dragging on these two films. DARK SHADOWS is in a very small select group of over 40 year old TV shows that still have a rabid fanbase. The release of these films will show profit, even if they just dump them onto dvd sans fanfare. They could have put them out years ago and be working on the extras ladden double dip by now!
As a long time fan, the fact that both films may come out without their respective missing pieces makes me very sad. I really can't even watch NIGHT in it's curent version, I was lucky enough to see one of the longer 97 minute prints and the 93 minute version just annoys me.

Unfortunately, while I usually of the mind to "never say never," any deleted material from HOUSE of DS is long gone, tossed in the lab dumpsters in NY 38 years ago...

Now I REALLY feel old! ;)
