Title: Bad Inclination
Description: Comments? + who has it in stock?

Henry Hopper - January 11, 2005 09:30 AM (GMT)
Anyone see this film: Bad Inclination ? It's description suggests it's a modern-day giallo, but I can't find any reviews online about it. If I could get it for $12 at deep discount dvd I wouldn't sweat it so much, but the only places that seem to have it in stock is TLA video and Rareflix, and their prices are a bit over my "experimental purchase" cutoff price. Any reliable retailers have it in stock for $15 or under? Checked amazon, dvdempire, deepdiscountdvd, bestbuy.com, all list it as back-ordered or out of stock. I'd order it if I had a reasonable guarantee it'd come back in stock at one of these places within a couple of weeks.

And please, spare us any comments regarding the dvd's publisher, I would really like an answer to this and that won't happen if the thread gets locked. Thanks.

Just read the TLA description. Is the Eva Robins who plays the "faded singer" THE Eva Robins from TENEBRAE?

William S. Wilson - January 11, 2005 05:59 PM (GMT)
I have not seen it but I did see the trailer a year or so ago under the title CATTIVE INCLINAZIONI. It does look very giallo-esque with a masked killer running around attacking half naked women. You can check out the trailer at the link below (in Quicktime; WARNING contains nudity). Look for a bearded Franco Nero as a street preacher in there too.

The very, er... one. Didn't FANGORIA run a short piece on the film in their last issue?

Well, you're certainly right about that. Everywhere I checked, except this one, at DvdPlanet, seems to be out of stock.

It's under $15, but w/ s&h I guess it wouldn't be.

I wonder what the deal is with this dvd, why not many e-tailers seem to have it in stock?

I was hoping to get a copy of this and TENEMENT from Media Blasters at Chiller, but they didn't have either with them. Maybe there was some sort of hold-up?

Thanks a lot, Dean, William, and the rest of you. That trailer looked decent enough(at the very least it didn't look ineptly made), and I think I'll order from dvdplanet, there's a couple of other stuff I want, so I should get the free shipping.

No problem, glad I could help. When you get it, make sure to let us know how it is.

This one peaked my interest about a year ago as well, and also still have yet to see. Certainly sounds like a worthy later giallo, although I guess seeing it would be the best way to determine that.

Like the cast - good to see Eva Robins still active, and prominently featured on the cover art - and hey, Florinda Bolkan's still doing her thing too.

Elisabetta Rocchetti is just starting to really come into her own as of late, and seems to be a current favorite of Argento at the moment, with bits in NO HO SONNO, THE CARD PLAYER, and now a part in Dario's latest TV project, DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK? (TI PIACE HITCHCOCK?).

Hopefully I'll also be grabbing CATTIVE INCLINAZIONI in the new year.

Your welcome Henry. I think I'll be ordering it myself, along with a couple of others I've been wanting to get.

Nice seeing that giallo cinema is still alive! Does anybody know anything about the director's backround? (past projects, etc)

The movie sounds interesting to say the least but I'd like to see some opinions before I invest in it.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I just got a screener of this from Media Blasters and here are my thoughts:

-Florinda Bolkan has a nice big part as a mysterious artist-red herring. Franco Nero's bit part is small, but I adore the man so it's always good to see him. Eva Robins still looks quite good 23 years after her appearance in Argento's TENEBRE.

-While the film tries to pay homage to the Italian exploitation/horror flicks of the 70s, there is not enough sex and violence to keep me awake. Eva has a handful of lesbian sex scenes which begin, but then cut to another scene. The murder sequences appear far apart from one another and are pretty generic, not the setpieces which filled the classic gialli. It all feels and looks like a TV movie, to be honest.

-The score is quite nice, reminding me of Pino Donaggio in spots, until cheesy synthesizers take over. ARGH!

-Here is the real nail in the coffin: The film was not shot in English, so an Italian language option would have been nice. Nope, a badly recorded English dub track is all you get. And it does the film no favors, hurting what could be good performances with lackluster emoting by the dub team.

So I'd have to say that unless you're a completist, this is one to skip or rent. The big reason why the disc suffers is the lack of an original language track. It might have been at least mildly watchable if it weren't so horribly dubbed by two girls playing every woman in the flick! At least the last attempt to revitalize the giallo, FATAL FRAMES way back in 1996, was so bad it was good. This one is just bad...

I have to give the film props for one bad scene: after a nice argument between Florinda Bolkan and one of her female students, Florinda takes off in her van...to stop and make a signal before driving away!! It's funnier if ya see it... :)

I got caught up with other things after last posting this thread, so I didn't order Bad Inclination at dvdplanet...luckily it came back in stock at deepdiscountdvd so I ordered it there for $12. Update when I actually receive and watch it..

Well, finally came in yesterday, watched it just now. Have to say Casey's comments were largely spot-on, though I think I enjoyed it a bit more than he did. The only really glaring flaw is the dub(there is NO attempt to match lip movements) but to me the film really suffers from a lack of creative ambition, it's all decently acted and staged, but there isn't enough kink, gore, or even visual stylization to make it seem worth the effort of trying to do a giallo again in this day and age. I mean, isn't that half the fun of the genre? It's somewhat telling in the making-of featurette that the writer-director self importantly explains how he put the film on the backburner because it was "ahead of its time" in regards to the film's shallow theme of media glorification of crime and suffering... that remark points out a basic cluelessness that explains why it turned out to be such a plain giallo. I suppose he doesn't go to the movies that often...

Has Franco Nero made any other Giallo/Horror movie appearances? I've never seen him in any.

Franco Nero is in THE FIFTH CORD (GIORNATA NERA PER L'ARIETE) 1971 (I believe was the year), by Luigi Bazzoni. It's out on a Japanese import, but will also be in the upcoming BU release, GIALLO COLLECTION 2 box set. I'm sure there are others, but that's the only one I know of & have. He was also in DIE-HARD 2: DIE HARDER in a small role.

Two other films he appeared in that could be considered somewhat horror are RING OF DEATH and HITCH HIKE. RING OF DEATH is a murder mystery, close to a giallo but not quite, with Nero as the detective. HITCH HIKE is similar to LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT with Nero and his onscreen wife being terrorized by LAST HOUSE's David Hess.

Cheers guys. I look forward to seeing the Fifth Cord when BU's Giallo box hits the streets. Ta for the Htch-Hike recommend William, but I've already seen it - Nero as a wife abusing pisshead, talk about against type
