Title: Alain Robbe-Grillet has passed
Jason Minnix - February 18, 2008 05:24 PM (GMT)
1922-2008I've
still never seen any the films he directed, but he is one of my four or five favorite writers, always provocative and often quite witty. Hopefully that new MARIENBAD print will hit my neck of the woods soon.

L'IMMORTELLE and TRANS EUROP EXPRESS are especially worth seeing.
He was one of my favorite novelists (PROJECT FOR A REVOLUTION IN NEW YORK is up there with anything Ballard has written, IMO) and I'm sad to see him go... but there is so much of his work that hasn't been translated into English, including the second two volumes of his highly imaginative autobiography, perhaps his death will spur a long-overdue correction of that.

Don't forget THE MAN WHO LIES!

I didn't forget it; I've never seen it.

MAN WHO LIES is essential Robbe-Grillet viewing (especially if you're a Jean-Louis Trintignant fan).

I managed to see it in the interim and it is truly wonderful -- and surprisingly funny, as is TRANS EUROP EXPRESS actually. I don't really think of actors in terms of favorites, but Jean-Louis Trintignant probably is my favorite actor, and THE MAN WHO LIES is one of his finest showcases.
