Has anybody seen this direct video release? Found the box at the local video store and almost took a chance but for a $3.50 rental I passed. The trailer looks very Cloverfield-ish and the DVD came out on Jan 18, same as Cloverfield.
It's another fine film, from the movie lovers' friend, Asylum. The real irony is that it's really about two lesbian serial killers
I try to never say "pass", no matter how bad the film. This might be the exception to that rule. Let me just say that to watch the trailer is to have seen the entire movie, with one smallish exception.
*spoiler*
There is a very brief tentacle kill of a major character.
Yeah... I heard that The Asylum sunk about 500G into this, but they used it all up on hiring pryotechnics...
... and forgot to buy a monster.
Seriously. They never get around to showing the thing. There's a flash of tail here, some barely-discernible tentacle action (shiny black against matte black sky), but that is literally it.
Of course, you hear the damned thing honking through the movie, but it's the same WAAA! effect over... and over... and over...
Even worse, the effect sounds almost like one of those cans you turn over that goes "Moooo."
And easily ten percent of the film is the vérité drop-out and black of the videotape (although I'm probably being generous... it seemed like much, much more).
The two leads are endearing, though. Just not endearing enough to sit through this thing again.
No monster shown in a movie called Monster. Sheesh.
