Title: Raumpatrouille Orion Kult-Kollektion
Description: a quick summary

Terry Barhorst, Jr. - February 15, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Got my copy of the Raumpatrouille Orion Kult-Kollektion in yesterday. The set includes all seven episodes of the 1966 German sci-fi series Raumpatrouille Orion and the 2003 clip movie RAUMPATROUILLE ORION - RÜCKSTURZ INS KINO (at least I'm pretty sure that's what it is).

If you look at Amazon.de and other sites they all list English subs, but unfortunately only the compilation movie is subbed in English. The television episodes are not! I still not sure if I'm pissed or relieved (at least something was subbed). I did notice the iron

Otherwise it's a nice box set. The television that's over 40 years old the picture is very nice, crisp black & white. I only watched about 5-10 minutes of the first episode and a couple of bits from some others while I was trying to figure out what was going on with the subs. Didn't notice any real problem with dirt or damage.

Sound was fine; you got a choice of mono or a 5.1 remix. Soundtrack is cool; jazzy/futuristic. Call it a typical 1960's eurocult soundtrack.

Even watching it in German it was reasonably easy to follow what was going on though I know I was probably missing some subtleties. I debating sitting through the movie and then the individual episodes figuring that might make the episodes a little more comprehensible.

There's a smattering of extras some of which don't need subs (music videos essentially).

I'm still somewhat peeved, but I've been jonesing to see these since I've heard of them and this is probably as good as it's going to get.

The compilation movie also contains some campy new filmed scenes. I haven't seen it since everybody agreed that it's terrible. The original series OTOH is amazing.

BTW the original TV-title of the series was "Raumpatrouille - Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion".

"Raumpatrouille Orion" is just the DVD-title.

The box sets aren't subbed in English?! I was attempting to try to get a copy last year after discovering the show via YouTube clips... glad now that I didn't shell out the money.
Something has to be subbed in English - several of those clips did have English subs on them.

You're right about being able to follow the stories without understanding German, though there is a lot of ironic humor that is being missed, from what I can gather. Although if my school had access to these earlier, I would have made an effort to study German a bit more.

How much did the set cost in U.S. dollars?

Those Youtube clips were probably from the compilation movie, RAUMPATROUILLE ORION - RÜCKSTURZ INS KINO, unless they were fansubs. The box set includes all seven television episodes and RAUMPATROUILLE ORION - RÜCKSTURZ INS KINO, but only the movie is subtitled (don't know about any of the extras on the disc with the movie, haven't looked yet).

The set cost me $37.05 (from amazon.de). It could be a bit more or bit less depending on the exchange rate.
