Description: Sunday NY Times article on George Romero

There's a nice write-up on Senor Romero's career and Zombie flics in today's NYT movie section.

Mr. Jones plays a good man protecting (mostly) odious white people

What, did the author fast forward through the whole goddamn movie?

I can't wait for the next one: HONEYMOON OF THE DEAD!

Two things I haven't seen yet about DOTD;

1) TV spot

2) Positive reviews

Has anyone else seen either?

Bob Cashill - February 12, 2008 05:38 AM (GMT)
There are a few of the latter (Variety, etc.) here.

What? You've never seen a kind review of DAWN OF TH... OH oh oh, you mean DAY OF... Ohhhh.

"DOTD": Most Useless Acronym in Horror!

2) Positive reviews

When the film first premiered, there were tons of positive reviews. I've only seen a few negative ones trickle in afterwards. Just a sample:

Hmmm... days until the movie opens and we have this DIARY OF THE DEAD MySpace page as the major promotion for the film. According to this page, Diary is opening at NYC's AMC 25 and Village East (with no showtimes apparent for online purchase), with an advance screening at Lincoln Center the night before. Anyone know where (or if) the movie is showing near them?

The limited release and even more limited promotion doesn't bode well for big box office, but it would be nice if the fans showed up to give Diary an impressive per-screen average on it's first weekend.

Unless, of course, it sucks.

(Which could happen. I'm in the group which thinks the original NOLD and DAWN are works of brilliance which haven't been matched by this auteur. I thought the remake of DAWN was gripping, while LAND was deadly.)

How could it suck? It was made in Canada.

One Stop Shopping

The U.K. trailer is more substantive than the domestic, and is worth a look.
