Description: ..and some surprising news.

Very curious about the latest apparent developments. This will be an interesting movie, to say the least.
Things are afoot...

What's the news? I can't seem to see much on that site.
William D'Annucci - February 7, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
The fact that there is a site is news. After lots of rumors and speculation, it's a more definite sign that the production is going to try and continue without Heath Ledger. How can they do this? Well, as Anthony said, things are afoot.

There were a few pieces posted on-line (such as
this one ) indicating that thanks to a plot point in the film- where at one point Ledger's character falls into a "magic mirror"- that at this point, another actor could take over the role, and they shot enough with Heath to cover his performance up to that point in the film. One name being bandied about to "transform" from Heath is Johnny Depp. In any case, it appears Gilliam not only intended to finish the film, he intends to keep as much of the work Heath finished in the final film as possible as a tribute to Heath.

The official Gilliam fan-site
Dreams mentions that the producers will apparently make a full announcement within the next few days.

It's probably worth waiting for more reliable confirmation, but this AICN
story indicates that Ledger has been replaced by not one actor, but three: Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell.

Now that's funny.

Glad to see Gilliam ran into some good luck for a change.

Sounds like this could work in a book, but not a film. Not to me, anyway.
Barbara Carrera! Very witty! I saw the trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT last night and I was very impressed with the late Heath's committment to the role. Sigh!

I find this an interesting response, because if anything, different actors playing the same part is a distinctly visual (i.e., cinematic) idea, as opposed to a literary one. Why, then, would you think it might work in a book but not a film?
