Andy took a big risk, but did what he knew was right. That takes guts and he's got my respect!

At first one might think it a bit overly dramatic to say a celebrity risked their own safety for an audience member, as there's frquently more than a little self-aggrandizement that comes from publicity of that sort. In this case, Andy Lau really did put himself on the line, not simply by jumping from the satge, but confronting the various security personnel that didn't seem too adverse to mixing it up with him, too, at first. Very cool.
Coincidentally, I received two of his films in the mail today---A WORLD WITHOUT THIEVES and BATTLE OF WITS.

I only ocassionally watched the cartoon, as I was in grad school at the time, and while I didn't think myself "too mature" for animated heroics, as someone who'd grown up on JONNY QUEST, I disliked the watered-down approach to violence, with fire arms that made vehicles flip over but never seemed to hurt people. Of course, the same criticism could be levered against THE A-TEAM.
Still, I saw a few episodes on the big TV in the graduate dorm, and I was impressed by the cleverness of two. One was a fairly biting attack on censorship, with a COBRA plot to take over a TV station and broadcast programs in which everybody gets along and there's no conflict and everybody's just alike (one was an obvious attack on THE SMURFS). Another had a character who seemed to be based on Harlan Ellison, something I mentioned to Harlan when he came to speak at UNCG.

Ian McDowell - I've heard that's exactly what Andy said to the security guards just before he really set them straight.

Grady posted about this on Kaiju Shakedown a while back and I thought at the time -- and still do -- that Andy Lau is pretty amazing. Man, if he was playing at Altamont, the 60's would never have ended.
[Grady has a second link to the action, from a distance, which is great to watch, because you see that Andy's backup dancers stay as close to him as they can (while still staying on stage) whereever he goes, continuing to dance. The next time I get in a fist fight, I totally want a group of backup dancers for it.]

Now how on earth did I post that message, which was meant for the G. I. Joe thread on the SF/Horror/Fantastic Cinema board, in this one? Swear to General Kwan, I was sure that was the only open window on my screen. At least it's not as embarassing as the time I accidentally sent my agent a message beginning "Dear Sex Poodle" (that's a BUFFY reference) that I'd intended for my girlfriend (both their names began with "R" and I chose the wrong one from the drop-down menu).
So carry on, notthing to see here, and yes, what Andy did was very cool.
