Title: Ellen Page to star in Lesbian Werewolf movie?
Description: Is JACK AND DIANE still happening?

William D'Annucci - February 1, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
In the wake of some very disappointing news and rumors over The Wolfman, I thought it might be nice to put some hopes towards another potential werewolf movie that I don't even know will ever get made.

Jack And Diane was listed on IMDB as starring Ellen Page until recently. Also starring Olivia Thirlby (Juno's best friend), with anamatronic werewolf effects, and interior psychological torment animated by The Brothers Quay. Here's the synopsis provided at this production page:

QUOTE
Jack and Diane, two teenage lesbians, meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire occasionally turns her into a werewolf.

Has anyone heard about this project? Is it still going to happen? The linked site above promises a Summer 2007 release.

...and, anyone think Juno caught her lycanthropy from that creepy punk girl at the abortion clinic, considering it was Emily Perkins from the Ginger Snaps movies? Or maybe it was the pie balls.

I haven't heard of the werewolf film, but I have heard that Page will supposedly star in the new Roller Derby film WHIP IT, to be directed by Drew Barrymore. I suppose that, after JUNO, Page will be the "it girl" for this year, so her name will probably be attached to various projects.

I like that this thread sparked a solid row of Ellen DeGeneres ads below. I'm going to guess that key phrase was "Roller Derby."

Either way, I'm enthused for both of these projects. The only way it could be better is if they were somehow combined into a Drew Barrymore-directed lesbian, werewolf Roller Derby film starring Ellen Paige.

Maybe the lesbianistic Page character/Roller Derby skater could turn into a werewolf when she gets really, really mad at the opposing skater? Or, perhaps whenever there's a game skated on a night with a full moon? The title could be amended to WHIP IT OR CLAW IT!

I'd be fine with a remake of UNHOLY ROLLERS with lesbian werewolves tossed in. Edited by Martin Scorsese, of course.

Page has been cast in Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell, which starts filming next month. They mention other projects she's attached to, but nothing on Jack & Diane. Oh well. Sounded interesting, especially with the Quays involved. I hope it still comes together.

If the lesbian werewolves make out, I'm on it.

That's when their hair grows! :P :D

Lesbian werewolf roller derby queens. I'm there.

Loboians on Wheels?

I wonder whatever happened to Raimi's DIBBUK BOX film... that looked like it was gonna be a winner. Did anyone else ever hear about this?

Steve Johnson - February 11, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
So does this mean the lesbian vampire subgenre is played out? Any votes for what's after werewolves?

Lesbian Kaiju! Making Out!

Okay, now it looks like Page is NOT gonna do Sam Raimi's movie after all. Great.

As of late last year, Page has confirmed that Jack & Diane is still a project on the horizon, but that the whole werewolf angle is strictly a psychological metaphor in her character's head. No real werewolves will be consulted in the making of this motion picture.

Phooey.

Oh yeah, life goes on - long after the thrill of werewolves is gone.

Olivia Thirlby and Ellen Page are two of the absolute best up and coming actresses. Olivia is great in Juno, but in The Wackness she is sensational and sinsational. What a career sparking performance she puts in there. So I would assume once The Wackness is out and the rising star power of Miss Page, will make all future projects get even more tossed up into the air. The rising profile of both of them could give the film so traction to get needed financial support, though at that point will the script or other intangibles of the project entice either enough to turn down other projects, especially if they start to get offered the hottest projects in town.

The werewolf concept of this still could work. If the synopsis about Ellen's character having werewolf visions when she becomes sexually aroused is true, they could obviously have some fun with that concept and throw in some genre elements into what sounds like a corny coming of age romance tale. Specifically I'm thinking if they follow the similar dream sequence template Peter Jackson used in Heavenly Creatures.
