Title: Dark Heroine Muk Lan Fa and more

I just wanted to give a shout out to an amazing new review site that features some great Asian movie reviews: Todd Stadtman's The Lucha Diaries.

I'm particularly excited about his new review of the Dark Heroine Muk Lan Fa series. Fans of Hong Kong cinema's female action heroes will definitely want to check it out. I can only excitedly concur with what Todd has eloquently written about these films.

Hey, thanks---I've been a mad fan of female action hero flicks for years now,so this is right up my alley! Interestingly enough, I just got through watching my 4th Stephen Chow flick, a whacked-out horror comedy titled OUT OF THE DARK, and just began watching A CHINESE ODYSSEY--PANDORA'S BOX---they're both on YouTube, along a batch of other Chow flicks, which I wasn't even looking for in the first place, bot that I stumbled across them. I've seen very few non-Shaw Brothers films that were made prior to 1970, so I'm definitely watching the clip on that site---praise the Lord for YouTube!

Well Kim, I think you'll really like these. The fights are choreographed by Lau Kar-leung and Tong Gai, and they seem to be trying out lots of new ideas, especially in regards to photographing the action. (This is right before and just during the time they started working for Shaw Brothers.)

BTW, if you are hooked by the clip, you can find the rest of the first movie on YouTube. VCDs of all three films are fairly cheap at YesAsia.

I was definitely hooked by said clip, and I've had fun watching the few other clips from the other films reviewed on that site. It seems like only about half the film was downloaded on there, so thanks for the tip. I enjoyed the fighting & shoot-'em-up action----too bad these films,as well as HOUSE,THE BLACK ROSE and the Thai films aren't available anywhere at the moment. But those are some damn good reviews, anyway!

Kim, the Muk Lan Fa films are available at YesAsia (scroll through this list of Suet Nei's films):

And Insee Daeng is available at eThaiCD:

The Black Rose is currently out of print. I'm not sure about the others.

Thanks for the tip! Since this is a female fighters thread, I thought I'd post a link to an interview with an all-time old-school favorite of mine, Yukari Oshima. It seems to be a recent one, and she not only still looks good, she's got some cool stories to tell:

Also came across this rare interview with Shaw Brothers veteran Lily Li:

Couldn't link the other 2 parts, but they're there--check 'em out!
