Geneon Entertainment Inc. (Jeneon Entateinmento K.K.) is scheduled to release Masayoshi Sukita's 54-minute horror movie Gakidama on sale DVD (GNBD-1428; NTSC, region 2, no subtitles) in Japan on February 22nd; the DVD is available for pre-order from Amazon Japan K.K.. Toshiba Video Softwares Inc. (Tôshiba Eizô Sofuto K.K.) released the movie on VHS in Japan on December 27, 1985.

The screenplay for Gakidama was written by Atsushi Yamatoya, based on the eponymous novelette by Baku Yumemakura. (Yukihiko Tsutsumi's The Sword of Alexander (Taitei no ken) was based on Yumemakura's serialized story "Taitei no ken".) The movie stars (listed order corresponds to order on VHS box cover) Kyôzô Nagatsuka, Kazuyo Matsui, Ichirô Ogura, and Yôsuke Saitô. Shin'ichi Wakasa was responsible for its special make-up effects.
