. . . a batch of excellent comedies coming in April, including films by Wilder and Leisen . . .
http://www.classicflix.com/artwork-update-...dies-a-178.html. . . one can only hope Universal will finally start producing these "classics" on a regular basis . . .
THE MAJOR AND THE MINOR, SHE DONE HIM WRONG, EASY LIVING, MIDNIGHT
Don't forget Sturges' involvement -- he wrote EASY LIVING.
All four are Paramount titles. Universal bought the pre-'48 Paramount library decades ago.
Universal is sitting on a treasure trove of Paramount classics. When are we gonna see early Paramount Technicolor films like TRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE and EBB TIDE and...more importantly, all those Dorothy Lamour sarong movies in Technicolor, none of which I've seen:
HER JUNGLE LOVE
ALOMA OF THE SOUTH SEAS
BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON
TYPHOON
Plus, her first sarong movie, THE JUNGLE PRINCESS, which was in b&w.
...and, while on the subject of Leisen, a release of To Each His Own would be nice.
THE MAJOR AND THE MINOR!
Finally! Just about perfect comedy of identity, except for maybe the very last line, in which Ginger suddenly seems a little maternal:
Ray (happily recognizing the girl he fell in love with): SuSu!
Ginger (indicating the train, which is about to leave): Come, Phillip!
My suggestion: "Yes, Phillip - it's me! It's really me!" Embrace, THE END.
We're overdue for another Deanna Durbin set!
