Angela Mao: Tears of JoyI ran into a guy from another department in the building where I work who happens to be an old-school kung fu fan and he alerted me to an item in today's New York Post about Angela Mao. The link is above, but here's the text:
"November 27, 2007 -- WHO says tough girls don't cry? Angela Mao, the Hong Kong martial- arts queen turned New York restaurateur, was driven to tears Saturday night by the cheers of fans at Japan's Tokyo Filmex festival, The Post's V.A. Musetto reports. Best known as Bruce Lee's sister in the 1973 classic "Enter the Dragon," she said she got the job despite an embarrassing accidental fall from a high wall during rehearsals. Mao, now the mother of three, has lived here 25 years and runs three eateries in Queens."
Now I knew Angela lived in Queens but I didn't know she owned restaurants.
Now when is some enterprising rep house in town going to put together an Angela Mao retrospective and invite her as special guest? Especially since Fortune Star's been releasing so many of her best movies in new editions. (BROKEN OATH is now out in a nice legit DVD.) And get me to host it. (That would be a dream gig...hmmm, where's that number for my friend at the Walter Reade? I mean, they did Grace Chang already, can Angela be far behind?) And when's Quentin Tarantino gonna cast her in a comeback role? She and Pam Grier date from the same era. What's taking him? Look what Stephen Chow did for the actress who played the landlady in KUNG FU HUSTLE (Yuen Qiu, aka Kan Chia Fong).
What a banner week this has been so far. :D Nono has her baby on Monday (see the "Child of Morning Musume" thread) and since I can't expect the blessed event to be covered in any U.S. press, the mention of Angela Mao in the Post the next day is ample compensation, especially since it's probably her first mention since ENTER THE DRAGON opened in August 1973, 34 years ago!
