Wow.

No Original French language track? That's a bit disappointing.

I was hoping the French track and subs would simply be unmentioned on the cover the way the English dub was unmentioned on the UK disc. Since the US disc is only dubbed and its still non-anamorphic, there's no reason to do an image comparison like I did with THE IRON ROSE.

Get the Redemption R2 disc. My only complaints are that its non-anamorphic (none of the DVD releases are 16:9), it features the considerably shorter English language title sequence (my SWV tape has the French titles), and the first scene is presented after the credits whereas the SWV tape which I presume represents the French assembly starts with the first scene and then the credits followed by the vampire woman escaping and first encountering the hero. I think that's the more effective construction.

I'm hoping for an Encore edition of this title. Its really my favorite Rollin. Its more assured than RAPE OF THE VAMPIRE (which is compelling in its first part but then derails in the second section of the film which has interesting imagery but really needed a serial's length of running time to be successful).

SPOILER:

In the first close-up of the hero, his face is so white and expressionless it looks like a mask. The actor's ability aside, I wonder if Rollin was hinting at a major revelation in the end regarding the character and his relationship with the vampire woman.
