Title: Alex de la Iglesia's ACCION MUTANTE coming to DVD!
Description: Metrodome region 2

Steve Guariento - November 13, 2007 12:43 PM (GMT)
Finally! After what seems a lifetime, an English-subbed version of Alex de la Iglesia's knockout bad-taste classic ACCION MUTANTE is coming to UK DVD courtesy of Metrodome - they are releasing this and Iglesia's 800 BULLETS* on the same date, Boxing Day (a rather odd release day, but there you go). Lord knows how much they had to stump up for the rights, but who cares - it's on its way.

I like to think I made my own modest contribution towards this release by paying through the nose for the OOP Spanish DVD S.E. AND the OOP UK widescreen VHS tape recently. You may thank me with an appropriately generous PayPal donation.

* Actually, this one is the more surprising given the BBFC's usual kneejerk attitude to sex scenes involving underage children. Maybe they've finally relaxed on this point, and now can see the funny side of a young boy having innocent fun with a large pair of breasts. I can't find 800 BULLETS on the BBFC website, so perhaps a decision has yet to be made...

EDITED TO ADD: Credit must go to zetaminor.com for this newsflash.

Yeah, but why doesn't this excuse ever work in my favor...? :P

What's the best DVD of PERDITA DURANGO?

The recent UK release is fully uncut and presents a longer version than the old HK VCD - If I recall correctly - and again please let me know if I'm wrong - this UK release offers the longest cut available anywhere. Regrettably it's not anamorphic but at least it's in the original 2.35:1 AR whereas the slightly shorter HK VCD jumps to full-screen 4:3 after the opening credits. Furthermore, it has the worst cover art I have ever seen.

I believe the Spanish DVD also offers the fully uncut version of the film (dvdcompare.net only gives a couple of seconds difference in running times between the Sogepaq DVD and Metrodome's new disc, which could be due to opening logos?) - where the UK disc scores is that it provides English subs for the Spanish dialogue. The uncut German disc was highly prized by many when it was originally released, but I seem to recall that English subs were problematic (the viewer had to have them either on all the time, even for English dialogue, or off). The German disc seems to be the only English-friendly anamorphic presentation, too (the Spanish disc, like the UK, is only flat letterboxed).
