I'll tell you what, the early Geico cavemen ads are some of my favorites from the past few years.
"Not cool!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5JV0Fs_GE8And thanks to Bill Picard for this classic.
"It's just like a mini...mall!"

This has always been one of my favorites:
Man VS Bear
Joel Stein - October 21, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
I don't think this one ever actually aired. Too bad.
Nutrigrain ad

Any commercials directed by David Lynch are usually good.
(sorry about the low quality on this one):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE6TolZxm1Qhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSWv90msTUc (Do PSAs count as commercials?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDgQp__xacohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vor65mNB8Uk (I hate that this one is for evil cancer sticks, but it's still pretty cool)
Anything from Japan with Arnold Schwarzenegger is usually pretty amusing:

I don't know why
this ad for Mastercard doesn't get more play.
That unaired Nitrigrain ad that Joel posted plays like SHIVERS as an American sitcom.
Raymond Tucker - October 25, 2007 03:56 PM (GMT)
Check out this
Trippy Nesbitt's Orange Soda Pop commercial but check your brain at the door.
Joel Stein - October 25, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
Another ad which I don't think actually aired--
VW Polo
Frank Coleman - October 26, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
Anybody got that link for those demented early Jim Henson b&w commercials that was posted here a while back...?
best,
FBC

Well since this delightful thread has started to turn macabre...
here's my favorite
Joel Stein - October 26, 2007 06:21 AM (GMT)
OK, here are some of my favorites that actually
did air.
Budweiser (Not a Wazzup! ad, although I did enjoy those, too.)
WTF Burger KingIt's
the battle of the century!Swiss Miss pudding barsBirth to deathGotta love this fab campaign:

FourStunt CityFedExand a
FedEx classic.
Eric Cotenas - October 26, 2007 09:40 AM (GMT)
Does anyone remember that commercial where a family are sitting around the table and an orange juice drink suddenly comes to life. As its going on about how healthy and nutritious it is, the family are screaming and running away from it. It chases them through the house and the mom trips and screams as the animated drink bottle catches up to her?
Chris Barry - October 26, 2007 09:45 PM (GMT)
I think this thing still runs in the Chicago area:
Victory Auto WreckersAnd they don't do 'em like this anymore:
Salem'sAnd here's a bizarre way to sell cars:
Charger

This one might too:
Eagle Man!
Craig Blamer - October 26, 2007 11:20 PM (GMT)
Well, that VW Polo ad got an "Oh...my...gawd." out of me, and those don't come easy.
I got a kick out of this
one..
Bill Picard - October 27, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
Speaking of commercials, did anyone see the Office this week? Having Michael's commercial turn out to be as good as it did is why this is the only sitcom I watch.
I uploaded a few commercials for your viewing pleasure:
If you're going to ask Godard to sell your blue jeans, you can't really complain when he turns in
this. I mean, they must've known, right?
80's synth + Fiat + gliding camera =
Dario Argento.If Chabrol had directed
The Big Sleep, it would have looked like
this.A clever early commercial from
Jeunet.Roman Polanski channels
Tenebrae and
Dressed to Kill to show us why
Condè Nast kills.A Cinzano commercial from
the man who invented Felliniesque. Does anyone know if that's a genuine or faux-Rota score?
This commercial makes my jaw drop. I'd love to see it run during
Oprah.
Joel Stein - October 27, 2007 06:24 AM (GMT)
Car vs. pigeon. If you were OK with that, you
might want to check out this next one, but be warned-- even keeping in mind that it is computer generated, it's still rather grotesque, especially for cat lovers.
Car vs. cat.
Craig Blamer - October 27, 2007 06:53 AM (GMT)
Holy crap... I could see those two being storyboarded, but to actually shoot the commercial (especially the cat one) makes you wonder what they're thinking.
Although the pigeon one got a "Bwa-ha-ha!" out of me.
And to be honest... the cat one was brilliant. I doubt that someone could get away with doing it in even a horror film, but still...
Then there's
this. Slightly less gruesome.
Joel Stein - October 27, 2007 07:29 AM (GMT)
Here are some lighter ones, for
BEER and
A LOTTERY.This is fun!
Erik Nelson - October 28, 2007 01:08 AM (GMT)
Jeno pizza rollsThis is a parody by Stan Freberg of the then-popular ad for the cigarette Larks. In the Lark commercial which also used the William Tell Overture, someone would drive around some area and ask people to show them their Larks. People would proudly wave their cigarette packs in the air.
Kevin Heffernan - October 29, 2007 03:02 AM (GMT)
Many baby boomers found this particular jingle difficult to forget.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Yuej5igoKCoAnd an Aha! moment for me when I realized that (1) that's Ali McGraw and (2) the product name was actually designed to appeal to those reluctant to drop their rolls off at Walgreens:

Alan Maxwell - October 30, 2007 06:22 PM (GMT)
Don't know about my favourite advert ever, but of the ones currently showing on TV, I really like this
Cadbury one. Weird.
Bob Gutowski - October 30, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
In New York we're currently seeing a TV spot about why a car was built a certain way - "because we promised you a Mercedes."
The male voice doesn't quite match the lips once the model shows up at the end of the ad, and I suspect this is a European spot which has been dubbed.
Any thoughts?
Joel Stein - November 21, 2007 05:08 AM (GMT)
...Just encountered
THIS and had to share.
Richard York - November 21, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
This one cracks me up. It's a New Zealand ad for Fresh TV, loaded with visual and spoken sexual metaphors (some of which are new to me). Safe for work, for the slightly immature mature viewer.

Kim Greene - November 28, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
My favorite new commercials:
The Build-a-Bear commercial where the little girl imagines all the animals she passes by on the street wearing costumes she'd like to create (the cats in different getups, the horse with big funny glasses & and a pink backpack).
The new Sprint commercial with the light signal that bounces all around the city to get to a cell-phone---didn't know this, but it's called flashlight-animation and I thought it was pretty sweet and imaginative:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOmijBESP3oHere's another similar Sprint commercial I stumbled across while looking for the 1st one, which is even goofier---I haven't seen it on T.V:

JEFFREY ALLEN RYDELL - November 28, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
Not one of my faves.
"Remember, when you were a kid?"
"Remember that dream you totally had, and we're not auto-suggesting you did at all?"
"The one about the screen that fit in your pocket, and did wondrous gadgety things? You know, that dream all kids had. The one also equipped with a GPS system."
"That was us. You're welcome. Aren't dreams fun?"
Marty McKee - November 28, 2007 04:35 AM (GMT)
Time for someone to post the Loggia orange juice spot again.

This Christmas, vote for Chris Christmas Rodriguez to replace Santa Claus:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OY4VHmej8gI think that this actually is an ad for something, but I can't figure out exactly what it is.
