Title: Bob Dylan in Newport on BBC4(UK)

I think from previous posts there are probably a few folks who might like to know that this Sunday evening the UK digital station BBC4 is having a themed "Bob Dylan at Newport" night. An introductory programme kicks things off, followed by two episodes of Arena (one about Dylan at Newport, the other about his appearance on, and the search for, the famous Madhouse on Castle Street) and then a screening of Festival! rounds it off.

I'd assumed that the two episodes of Arena had been trawled from the archives (quite a few of them have recently) but since the listings show them as being stereo/widescreen I guess they're more recent productions.

While I like his music, I wouldn't class myself as being a huge fan; nevertheless it looks like a decent line-up and yet another confirmation that BBC4 is turning into the station for documentary programming. There have been quality recent series (Racism: A History, The Protestant Revolution), lots of Storyville productions to celebrate the 10th anniversary (including the current Why Democracy? season); and some terrific recent themed seasons (the anniversary of Radio 1, the excellent Comics Britannia); heck, it's Emmylou Harris night as I speak!

Definitely a refreshing change from the recent and seemingly endless batch of documentaries about people being fat, having cosmetic surgery, etc. that seemed to fill up the digital schedules.
