Title: CRIMES OF THE BLACK CAT

I finally caught up with the Dagored NTSC DVD of Sergio Pastore's thriller starring Anthony Steffen, Shirley Corrigan, Giacomo Rossi Stuart, and Umberto Raho. I like the film itself. It has some great transitions as well as some delirious camera movements (especially the early scene where the blind Steffen's overhearing of the conversation of murderer and cohort is disrupted by the intrusion of a cacophony of sounds vying for his attention brought on by a ditzy girl starting up the jukebox). The DVD is in Italian with English subtitles and is letterboxed but non-anamorphic and not the original Techniscope aspect ratio. Its a pretty poor image and the subtitles are tiny. There are also some awful previews for films like GANG WAR IN MILAN and SEVEN DEATHS IN THE CAT'S EYE. Not that the films are awful but the trailers are not originals, they are newly assembled from footage in the films themselves and instead of new titles and credits, they cut back and forth between the scenes and then shots from the credit sequences with the particular actor or crew members name and when more than one credit is shown there is a dissolve to cover up any credits in between it or any "dead space."

This giallo is an overlooked one that is far deserving of a better presentation. I know it was dubbed but I think it was only released on tape in English with various foreign subtitles (the Greek one seems to be the more prevalent one).

Any plans for a better DVD of this one? I mean they've already done Luciano Ercoli's stuff and Emilio P. Miraglia. Sergio Pastore's (did he do more than one giallo) and Maurizio Pradeaux should get some American releases (NoShame Italy has already done a new transfer of DEATH STEPS IN THE DARK but its only available on Italian DVD without English options).
