Title: CAVEMEN - it didn't suck!

Bob Gutowski - October 3, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
It's totally unnecessary, and I don't think I'd ever watch it again, but there are some talented people on the show. The make-up is lighter than in the Geico ads, and is even a bit inconsistent from actor to actor. It wasn't nearly as bad as that two gay dads who have to deal with the lower-middle class New England parents of the guy who's going to marry their daughter thingie of a few seasons ago, and that had amazingly good people in it as well.

I didn't see this but was disappointed to hear it appears to not feature the same sardonic tone as the ads. Cavemen with attitudes are great. I absolutely love the one where the Caveman refuses to order anything and says, "I've lost my appetite." At least it has survived the first night! :)

The superb actor from the ads, who's not in the show, is scheduled to do some guest shots, should it survive.

Wha!?! I wasn't particularly planning on checking out the show itself, but somehow I just assumed that guy from the ads was in the show since that guy's rather excellent comic timing was why the commercials were so memorable in the first place. The basic concept - comci riffs off of 'So easy, a caveman could do it' - is just an exploration of another idiotic ad tagline, but the guy playing the caveman made it go over ten times better than it had any right to. Without the guy (and does he have name?) in the ads, what exactly is the point of the show?

Not to be unkind, but does anyone else think the actor wearing the Cro-Mask rather resembles Val Kilmer?

Absolutely.

I was hunting around the other night trying to find a listing for this to record it, but couldn't. Who the hell is airing this thing, and when?

You can see it at ABC.

CAVE MEN

I thought it was pretty bad.

He was in last night's show, and was pretty funny.

I have no idea why, but I like this show. I'm probably the only person in the world who does. I'm sure it'll only be on for a few more episodes though.

Recorded the new episode but haven't watched it yet. Heard there was a pretty good line in the first one about cavemen dating homo sapiens: "Keep the penis in the genus." Nice.

Edit: I watched episode two. It didn't make me laugh, but I enjoyed the vibe.
