MediaWorks is scheduled to release Takashi Miike's Tantei monogatari at the Cinemart Roppongi in Tokyo on September 29th.

The screenplay for Tantei monogatari was written by Tsutomu Shirado. The movie stars Kazuya Nakayama, Kurôdo Maki (a.k.a. Claude Maki), Tomoharu Hasegawa, Akiko Kikuchi, Harumi Inoue, Kai Atô, Hiroyuki Watanabe, Asae Ônishi, Kentarô Nakakura, Tomoya Shiroishi, Steven Haynes (Sutîbun Heinzu), Suekichi, Pê Hayashiya, Pâko Hayashiya, Izam, Nobuaki Kakuda, Tôru Kazama, Hisao Maki, and Yûya Uchida.

Here's a synopsis for Tantei monogatari from Ryuganji: "Private detective Kazama Raita (Nakayama)'s new neighbour is a dude with same name, Takashima Raita (Maki). From the moment he moves into the apartment next door, Takashima finds himself being tailed by the shady Kazama. ¶ One night, a female client of Kazama's is found dead minus her liver, followed by a second and a third victim, one with their kidneys ripped out and the other sans lungs. The two Raitas attempt to uncover the truth, which has something to do with a tragic genius by the name of Aoyama Yuki..."

I think I'll stick with the old "Tantei monogatari" starring Hiroko Y.

The most well-known and beloved TANTEI MONOGATARI was the television series starring Yusaku Matsuda as Tsuichi Tsujiyama, which had one film spin-off, mentioned above, starring Matsuda and Hiroko Yakushimaru. While some refer to the movie and series as "Detective Story," Jiro Akagawa's character is a P.I., so I've always referred to it as "The Private Eye Story." Anyhow, with another actor in the role, outside of Sonny Chiba, TANTEI MONOGATARI would be just one of many forgotten television series. Matsuda's presence is central to the success of the series, at least (IMHO).
