Not sure exactly where to ask this question! But I just watched a 1967 episode of GET SMART! featuring a motorcycle gang that tries to emulate the Knights of the Round Table...although they do so in Buck Henry fashion. It took me by surprise, as I thought the idea originated with George Romero's KNIGHTRIDERS. So did the TV series come up with this idea from whole cloth, did it have yet another cinematic predecessor, or was there an actual biker club that inspired it?

I have a very vague memory of the hero of Mark Twain's A CONNECTICUT YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT using a bicycle as a substitute for a horse in jousting... maybe that's where the germ of the idea sprouted.
