According to the blog dmtls Merzbau (see link below) Greek director Nikos Nikolaidis, known most here for SINGAPORE SLING, has passed away.

Accordign to the blog:

"Nikos Nikolaidis cult figure of Greek cinema died yesterday.

"Born in 1939 in Athens, director of Ta Kourelia Tragoudane Akoma (The Thrushes Are Still Singing), Glykia Symmoria (Sweet Bunch), Singapore Sling, Zero Years and a bunch more of movies intriguing and provocative, Nikolaidis haunted our collective unconscious with his art. After completing Zero Years in November 2005 he stated that he will quit directing, a rare example of an artist who knows when to retire. If you get the chance, watch his films and you will be rewarded. Great film-maker and also writer he will surely be missed."

It is with great sorrow that Jerry and I received this news. We are shocked and we really loved him very much. We were very proud that we were able to restore SINGAPORE SLING for him and he took great pleasure in the work we did with his film.

At least we were able to finish the restoration and get him copies to review before he passed.

Nikos was a colleague and friend and he will be missed.

RIP
Nikos
