Am I the only one who can't get to this site?

Yes. Yes, you are.

Bill Picard - September 7, 2007 02:47 AM (GMT)
It worked OK for me, Jeff.

JEFFREY ALLEN RYDELL - September 7, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
Only site I'm having this problem with. It just times out every time.

Can someone give the admins a heads-up this is happening to some (one?)?

*Thanks*, of course!

Here's word from Ian Jane:

I saw Jeffrey's post. I don't have an MHVF account so I can't address him there or I would. I have no idea why that's happening to him. His account has certainly not been banned or anything and even if it had been he'd still be able to read the forum. Sounds like he can't get the main page to load either - I'm guessing it could maybe be blocked? As in if he's surfing from work maybe a content filter is being set off or something?

If you're surfing from home, I'd suggest checking your virus protection/firewall settings, but I'm really just pulling stuff outta my hat. Maybe it's an IP propagation thing? I don't think that they've changed servers for the upcoming upgrade just yet, so that's probably not the issue, but if it *is*, it should eventually sort itself out for you.

JEFFREY ALLEN RYDELL - September 7, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Well, I'm at a loss.

I'm on a home PC, with no firewall. Much 'nastier' things are getting through!

DVD Maniacs became rather slow (as other users had remarked on their feedback forum - down to the looming upgrade), and then it just became completely inaccessible. This was just about a week ago now.

Thanks Ian, for getting in touch, and Aleck for putting us there.

Guess I'll try now and again, and if it never comes back... it doesn't.

Try using this: 203.22.204.73
(Mind you I couldn't get it to work, but it might be something on my end).

Nope. It hates me too. Thank you for trying, though.

One more thing you can try, it's kinda kludgey and it'll be slowish probably, but if it works...

Try this site:
http://www.modernproxy.com/

Lon Huber - September 7, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Jeffrey, your ISP's DNS server might be out of synch or corrupt and unable to resolve the address to the IP. You should call your ISP's tech support and see if they can connect to the site using their DNS servers. They might have alternate DNS server addresses for you.

It works. Grr, what does this mean....

Thanks, man. I don't understand what the hell is up here, but I appreciate you helping me out...

Terry Barhorst, Jr. - September 7, 2007 08:15 PM (GMT)
Lon's suggestion about getting alternative DNS servers from your ISP is a good idea. And the fact that you can get through using a proxy makes it that much more likely, (no guarantee though), that whatever DNS server you're currently using is the problem.

Dave Garrett - September 7, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
If you can't get your ISP to resolve the problem, you might want to try using the
OpenDNS servers.

JEFFREY ALLEN RYDELL - September 8, 2007 12:32 AM (GMT)
Thanks, guys.

OpenDNS didn't have any effect, but I'll talk to my ISP tomorrow. That should be fun, since I don't really understand anything about DNS myself.

Odd that I'm not running into this issue on at least one other site, considering how much surfing I'm doing these days.
