Title: NY Times reviews two Don May (Synapse) DVDs
Description: ... Malformed Men & Snake Woman's ...

Two Japanese DVD releases from Toei studios, Teruo Ishii's HORRORS OF MALFORMED MEN and Nobuo Nakagawa's SNAKE WOMAN'S CURSE, both released last week by frequent MHVF poster Don May on his Synpase label received glowing reviews in the DVD section of today's NY Times. (see link below (registration required))

I've yet to see the (in)famous HORRORS OF MALFORMED MEN, but my copy is enroute to my house from DVD Planet as I post. I like many of Ishii's films, FEMALE YAKUZA TALE, SEX & FURY, THE BLIND WOMAN'S CURSE, and others, so I can't wait to see HOMM.

Over the weekend, I watched SNAKE WOMAN'S CURSE and while it doesn't reach the heights of Nakagawa's JIGOKU, it's a well made, atmospheric ghost story that rivals his late 50s ghost films like GHOSTS OF KASANE, MANSION OF THE GHOST CAT, etc.

BTW, Synpase will be releasing 3 more Toei films on November 13, 2007, including two more by Nakagawa, OKATSU THE FUGITIVE and QUICK-DRAW OKATSU and one by Yoshihiro Ishikawa FEMALE DEMON OHYAKU.

Good stuff! Congrats, Don. ;)
