Title: Tarantino doesn't like the FIVE-O

News from IMDb.
QUOTE
Quentin Tarantino was horrified when studio bosses suggested he directs the big-screen version of cult '70s show Hawaii Five-O - he hates the series. Warner Bros. Pictures are currently developing a movie version of the Jack Lord-starring TV show, which ended in 1980 after 12 years. He says, "My producing partner at the time Lawrence Bender was hanging out with some dude from Fox or Warners or whatever, and they said I should stop working on what I was doing, because I'd be so into this. I tried to watch the old TV show, but it sucks. I don't even like Hawaii."

I think a HAWAII FIVE-O movie would be great, as long as the kept to the original series (casting a guy nearly 50, which won't happen). It could be a great Robert Forester vehicle.

How can anyone not love HAWAII FIVE-0? Zulu is Kono!

Until he passed away, I'd say that ANdy Sidaris could do a great HAWAII FIVE-O.

But you know, I'd bet that if he was given the budget for it, Fred Olen Ray could do really good one.

One thing for sure, if anyone wants to cast Traci Lords in it, they could get her in a heartbeat. She's a big,big fan of the show.

The theme song WAS the show!

You know, I like QT and seem to share his taste in movies - if not in TV shows - but it seems a little strange for someone who has spent their entire career doing retreds of grindhouse/drive-in fare to start getting sniffy about anything. In an interview, no less!

Jack Lord probably hated Switchblade Sisters, so there!

I think there was probably more to the quote than the imdb printed that would have put things in perspective. Some studio suit thought of Tarantino and erroneously thought "Pop culture! Kitsch! '70's!" and thus surmised he would jump to do something like this. And in turn Tarantino wants to make it understood that he's not automatically into everything from the '70's, nor is every property from that era worth revisiting.

I recall the great Mad Magazine satire "How-Are-Ya 5-0," when every so often some local color is gratuitously introduced into the story because "This is Hawaii, remember? If we don't reinforce that, we may as well just be 'Dragnet.'"

Except Robert Forster is 66...

And now...

[There is a quote from Tarantino making its way around the internet that has him telling The Sun, "They were trying to get me to do one. I haven't even seen the f***ing show. What the f*** is Heroes?"]

The quote comes under immediate suspicion in the comments section... funny how QT gets attention for what he WON'T direct!

I believe it. I have to think a wealthy 45-year-old single guy has better things to do than sit around at night watching TV shows for teenagers.
