Title: THE UNNATURALS/CONTRANATURA (1969)...
Description: ...Has anyone ever seen this?

I have been trying to dig up information on this Antonio Margheriti film for a little while, and can't seem to really turn up anything.
A.) Has anyone ever seen this? Is it great? Seems rad from what I have read, especially were it is in his filmography (60's).
B.) Was there ever an 80's VHS tape release of this stateside or even in a foreign market with English audio.
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks a ton in advance.

An English language copy of this movie should exist, because I have a promotional booklet bearing the title THE UNNATURALS, but I don't believe there was ever an American or English release. I'm pretty sure it's not in circulation; I've never found anyone with a tape copy in English. I've seen the film in French, which is not one of my languages (English, American and Slang), but I remember liking it and finding it somewhat akin to LISA AND THE DEVIL and Margheriti's own CASTLE OF BLOOD and WEB OF THE SPIDER, all films in which the living and the dead mingle. Directorially, it's one of his most accomplished pictures.

That's professional information.
Thanks a lot. I will continue to try for a copy.
I appreciate your help Tim.

I have the Italian release video which rather oddly bears the English language title THE UNNATURALS - but the tape itself is Italian language.

The Italian posters that I have seen feature both the Italian title and the English title stacked on top of one another.
I know of the OOP Italian tape (who's the distributor) as well as a German tape called SCREAMS IN THE NIGHT. What others have there been?

I have a Spanish language version; onscreen title: THE UNNATURALS. I believe there was an English language title, THE EXTERMINATORS. One of AM's very best. I don't believe this was ever released theatrically or on video in the US. I'm not sure about the UK. It was a German coproduction with Artur Brauner's CCC company, which produced many krimi's during the 1960s, and has some of that atmosphere. There are many long takes and labyrinthe tracking shots and a very surreal color design. It's an elegant film with a deliberate pace, a nonlinear, muliple story structure and a lot of dialogue which might complicate full understanding for those who need English dubbing or subtitles. A very ambitious film with a layered period atmosphere which visually resembles THE CONFORMIST and THE WHIP AND THE BODY. Definitely worth seeing and hopefully a DVD from original elements w multiple lang options in OAR will someday appear.

Tim Gane of Stereolab is a Eurocult fan and named one of their songs after this Margheriti film: "Contronatura."

I possess the film in a 2.35:1 print from a newish Italian release on the Shendene label.Quite a marvellous film.Part giallo, part erotic thriller.Cannot elaborate too much as it's in Italian language and the film's title is CONTRANATURA/THE UNNATURALS..which is a reference to the plot of this film. ;)

How's the print quality? Is it on DVD? Shendene has put out some Polsellil rarities on DVD (albiet in horrible quality - complete with analog tape rolling).

Surprisingly,it is excellent picture quality. The only way I would get rid of it,is if they released it on dvd.
