Title: Lee Marvin on DRAGNET (1952)
Description: Episode: "The Big Cast"

Bill Picard - August 29, 2007 04:00 AM (GMT)
I don't have a blog, so in honor of Lee Marvin Day tomorrow I decided to do the next best thing and offer up what's probably one of the best Marvin performances you've never seen. It's a 1952 episode of Dragnet--the fifth episode of the series, in fact--and LM does an astounding job. This isn't a mere walk-on or guest spot: aside from 2 extras, the entire episode has no one but Marvin, Jack Webb, and Barney Phillips (a short-lived partner before Ben Alexander came along). This episode is great, which is why I posted it to youtube. Here you go:

Part 1 (9:43)
Part 2 (6:04)
Part 3 (9:59)

Bill, I'll send 'em your way.

When are we gonna see Marvin's own cop series, "M Squad"? I've never seen an episode of it.

I mentioned that on my blog this morning. I can't imagine why some enterprising company hasn't released M SQUAD yet. I have seen at least one episode on TV Land, but that was several years ago when that network was good. It guest-starred Burt Reynolds and Tom Laughlin!

Thanks for the link, Bill. Great episode!

Agreed. I watched this today to celebrate the Lee Marvin Blog-a-thon. He is really great in it. I like how he nonchalantly asks for the salt and bemoans the mopping while describing what he has done in detail.

It was a lot more chilling than what goes on in a lot of todays cop shows!

Nah...we all know that DRAGNET could have used some bluelight semen stain bits. ;)
