Not to be confused with 2007's straight horror - Kôji Shiraishi's "Carved" a.k.a. "The Slit-Mouthed Woman" which I just watched and found to be pretty riveting. It's compelling stuff and not for the feint-hearted as it pulls no punches in it's depiction of child beating and parental responsibility. The only flaw for me - undermining as it did all the emotional build up and catharsis - was the stupid final "twist" that seems to ruin many a modern movie.
