I recently picked up the Sony R1 Drunken Master and was surprised to find that it defaulted to plain white Chinese subtitles everytime I selected "No Subtitles". I have an Oppo player unlocked to play Region Free. Could that have something to do with it?

Also, this may be an old and worn-out topic around here, but is the commentary track rejected by the fan community for some reason? I shook the Google tree fairly hard to find the answers to both of these questions, so I appreciate any help.

I haven't seen this in a long time, but I remember it was missing some of the original soundtrack, so it reverts to English in some cases. But I don't remember it playing subs all the time. As for the commentary, um...hmm. For some of it, Meyers is confusing the film with Snake in Eagle's Shadow. I'll just leave it at that.
