Title: New York Ripper extra scene
Description: in the office of the Professor!

Andrew King - August 14, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)
I just came across this extra scene in the Euro DVD release of New York Ripper by Danish Another World, "Many versions of the film omits a scene in which Dr. Davis has a brief conversation with his secretary that takes place between Williams' interview of Jane's husband and the raid on Mickey Scellenda's landlady's apartment." Has anyone seen this footage before? I cannot remember it from any previous release. There are some nice Fulci touches such as playing the secretery Heather's surprise zoomed in on her eyes

NYR extra scene 6MB mp4

It seems to be sourced from NTSC, and is converted to PAL and not that well color balanced to the rest of the PAL originated footage - but overall it is more than acceptable. This also seems to be the first anamorphic DVD release of this film (though a tiny bit too 'tall' still).

Couple things with that Mp4.

On my Mac, it downloaded as a text file by default, though simply dropping the .txt extension revealed it as a functioning Mp4.

This clip is cropped - the zoom out from the secretary's eyes should reveal Dr. Davis on the right in a rack-focus. Is the disc really not a scope transfer?

Also - Anchor Bay's old transfer *was* anamorphic - it just wasn't advertised as such on the packaging.

Thanks for the clip in any event, very cool to see.

Here is the clip done again - except this time as non-cropped and as if 'straight off the disc'. I had set the encoder on centre cut for another test - thanks for pointing that out, it was not looking right on the original clip I posted.

NYR extra scene redux

I tried downloading this twice with no success. Just audio comes through - no picture. What am I doing wrong? Technically clueless.

The clip uses AVC for video and AAC for audio - one possibility is you don't currently have an AVC codec installed on your computer (but DO have AAC, so you hear the audio).

AVC... AAC... codecs! I am completely stupid when it comes to this kind of stuff. I suppose I must now seek out an AVC codec (whatever the heck that is!) and install it. Thanks for the information - much appreciated.

Much better!

Be aware though - for me on a Mac, it downloads as a text file as before, and if I open it in a new browser window or tab, it appears as code. It doesn't embed in the window.

Again, if anybody else downloads it and has the same issue, just lop off the .txt extension.

Just make sure you've got the latest version of Quicktime installed.

on a Mac - Download linked file to disc, then remove the .txt extension and it will open in Quicktime fine.

Right - like I said twice!

Though if you don't want to have to adjust the aspect ratio, you're probably better off in VLC or something.

If you're interested, may I suggest Media Player Classic.
This player can play just about everything, and scales up,down, and sideways perfectly.

This should solve the problem with the least amount of agida.

Thanks, I needed to upgrade to the latest edition. Finally got to see the clip.

One of the actors in my old New York theatre company had a credit on his resume for something called THE RIPPER and when we got to talking about it he said it was an Italian film, totally chaotic shoot and I realized he meant THE NEW YORK RIPPER. He (a black man of about maybe thirty years then) said he played a drag queen, but there's no such scene in the finished film... I wonder if we'll ever see that footage.

FYI - this only happens with Safari. Using Firefox doesn't give you this problem.

Ah ha! Good to know.

I meant chaotic in the way Italian movie sets are known to be frenzied, with all the noise and confusion and yelling even when scenes are being shot. There were no tales of outrageous chaos, just regular.

Tales of ordinary madness...
